Underrated comment.
Wow - thank you for sharing this. I’ve played a few, first inspired by Horowitz in the 80s. (His 80s and the 1980s when I first got some of his CDs.) And I can still play K380 and 531 decently. Now I feel inspired to explore some more this new year.
I saw Ax last night with @philorch.bsky.social at @carnegiehall.bsky.social and remembered I had this video from the John Williams concerto curtain call at Tanglewood in July.
FYI, this is the second week of an excellent Schubertiade on “Exploring Music” by Bill McLaughlin on WFMT-FM (syndicated to many NPR stations.)

Which A minor piano sonata - D784 or D845? I love ‘em both.
Lynn Ahrens, who wrote and sang “The Preamble”, also wrote this, among other great songs.
(Thanks to @feldmanadam.bsky.social for pointing this out.)

Esa-Pekka Salonen conducts Debussy’s La Mer, a thrilling sea voyage portrayed in rich orchestral colors, plus dances from Images. The NY Phil celebrates Pierre Boulez’s centennial with acclaimed pianist Pierre-Laurent Aimard performing selections from Boulez’s Notations for solo piano in dialogue with the composer’s own orchestrations, as well as Debussy’s radiant Fantaisie for Piano and Orchestra.
An image form today’s concert’s first half with pieces by Pierre Boulez (Notations IV, VII, and II, in piano and then orchestral versions) interpreted with two movements of Debussy’s Images for Orchestra (Gigues and Rondes de printemps.) The pianist was Pierre-Laurent Aimard.
And image from the second half of today’s New York Philharmonic program with Debussy’s Fantaisie for Piano and Orchestea (with Pierre-Laurent Aimard) followed by Debussy’s La Mer.
Went to a Sun afternoon @nyphilharmonic.bsky.social
concert today with Esa-Pekka Salonen leading and Pierre-Laurent at the piano. Superb program of Boulez/Debussy in the first half. Then Debussy’s Fantaisie for piano/orchestra followed by a La Mer with a clarity I’ve never heard before. Bravi !
Enjoy! I’m seeing this program on Tuesday.
“Of light and stone” stole the show. What a magnificent piece.
I seem to recall that ~ half of the orchestral recordings on our public radio’s classical programs in the 80s/early-mid 90s were conducted by either Neville Marriner or Neeme Järvi. As I was building my CD collection, I bought a lot of Järvi and still have quite a few.
I love this opera. I was looking forward to seeing it at the MET Opera in April 2020, but the season was cancelled mid-March, and the opera house did not reopen until Sept 2021. I am eager to see it again. Enjoy!
An image of the program for a concert on 29 March 2025 at Carnegie Hall with Mitsuko Uchida playing two Mozart piano concertos (18 in G major and 21 in C major) with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra
Mitsuko Uchida is coming to Carnegie Hall next Saturday and is playing Mozart 18 and 21. I can’t wait!

I’m up in the balcony!
Saw a commercial for #redwoodmusical tonight on WABC-TV during #Jeopardy.
I saw it two weeks ago and really enjoyed it.
I saw my first @smashbway.bsky.social commercial tonight on Jeopardy on WABC-NY.
“If there’s one thing we know about putting on a show is that behind every hit musical is a hot mess.”
I already have tickets - on April 1st!
Congrats!
Whenever I have a respiratory infection with my voice an octave lower, if I call someone, I say “this may sound like Brenda Vaccaro, but it’s actually [me] with a bad cold.” I’ve been doing this since the mid-90s.
We need a @mikeirons12.bsky.social poll. And add maybe add Zueignung to the mix.
Even watching Jeopardy tonight on Channel 7 #WABC I couldn’t escape this fantastic show. I need to see it again.
Brings back memories of Senator Jim Jeffords of Vermont
I saw my first #maybehappyending commercial tonight while watching Jeopardy. I loved it and want to see it again. (The musical, that is.)
Anita Gates’s warm and witty obituary of the writer Marshall Brickman contains this gem:
During the 1970s, Mr. Brickman was one of four writers of a television pilot, “The Muppet Show: Sex and Violence,” which after considerable revision became “The Muppet Show.”

Great - I have a family filled with Haunted Mansion fanatics, so I might do some holiday shopping early!
Where did you get it?
