Lot of people discussing this with the idea of failing faster. I would put it to you that failure doesn’t actually have to exist at all in this conception. One of the great mistakes of the AI brouhaha is the belief that art is good because of its craft or content. It is good because it connects us.

If you want to write anything good, you cannot afford to be afraid of your reader.
This is a really powerful piece from @thatsabrina.bsky.social that also makes me really want to read her new novel: lithub.com/the-power-of...

Yep. And you've gotta DO IT. Commit, lean into it. Make it the best darn (metaphorical or otherwise) bagpipe break you can possibly manage.
Don't wonder if you can or should. Wonder how anyone can even begin to stop you (they can't).
it is completely possible to have a metaphor next to the real thing in fantasy. it's not "breaking" the metaphor. in fact, it often deepens it.
example:
discworld has metaphorical alcoholics (vampires) next to real alcoholics (sam vimes.) they don't like each other.
It was Downey who coined the phrase in the LEVERAGE writers room “future episodes do not win out over present episodes”. Trust me, you’ll have more ideas. You’ll die full of them.

Sketch of Eddie and Waylon
Sketch of Eddie knitting from the fic to be well by tenuous
Eddie and Waylon (2/4)
Two generic outlast sketches and one from the fic “to be well” by tenuous (variant).
Bros, I’m so happy to know this fic still exists and that the author reposted (and finished!!!! 🥰) this work after being bullied offline years ago
it's funny how very similar subcultures have no idea that each other exist. just saw a romantasy-inspired essay called "no one wants monster girls" and...
uh...
it is clear that the author did not type "monster girls" into google.

This is the beat up version, Ethan is recovering from a beating he took from a biker gang, and Tom is helping him feel better :)
oh my god I love this. and you're so right re: eddie being a bottom
Unsolicited writing advice: no. 8075: There is no such thing as serious writing. There are only writers who take their work seriously, and those who don’t. Tragedy is no more “serious” than comedy. Children’s writing is no less “serious” than writing for adults. Good writing is wherever you find it.
There are ofc counterexamples. One of the only hard-and-fast rules of writing is that it's technically possible to make damn near anything work.
But the real question is, WHY are you trying to make it work? What is this very heavy hammer bringing to your story? Why is it the right tool for the job?
