Having a favorite beach is such a good kind of favorite to have, I think. ♥️

This post brought to you by reading this gorgeous book five times tonight, which is one of the more beautiful picture books I've ever encountered: www.chroniclebooks.com/products/whe...
Fantasizing about ditching tech for a career in kidlit. I am acutely aware of all the reasons that's not reasonable but it's a nice thought.
The cover of the May/June 2026 issue of Texas Observer magazine depicts a drawing of two androgynous track and field athletes running on a track. In the sky, stripes in the transgender pride flag colors run parallel to the track lanes. Headline: Let Them Play, How welcoming trans athletes can improve sports culture for all by Jessica Luther.

FINALLY updated my website with all two (2) publications I've managed since, uh.... 2018 🥲 As a reward for triumphing over Wordpress' janky editor I cracked open the tin of sardines I've been saving for a special occasion.
What I Mean When I Say I'm Tired I don't mean I want to sleep. I mean I want to disappear for a while. To be rain on a stranger's roof. To be smoke rising from someone else's fire. I don't want to die. But I do want to rest in a way the world has never allowed me. I don't want comfort. I want quiet. I want the mercy of being unseen without being unloved.
What I Mean When I Say I'm Tired ~ K.E. Sermonté
"I want quiet.
I want the mercy of being unseen
without being unloved."
Shoot I'm so sorry. I try to keep my day job and creative life a bit separate but if raiding my LinkedIn connections would help you at all, happy to DM the link to my profile.
...... except of course that it is *April* and this was supposed to be my March submission, aha ha ha.
Well! I'll just have to find somewhere else to submit this month.
I DID IT
I am not 100% sure how I feel about the title but I DID IT IT'S DONE I SUBMITTED TO A DREAM PUB HELL YES
And despite this year sucking shit in a number of ways I am 3/3 on my monthly submission goal!
Welp, the chapbook is done, TOC and all (I have a TOC!! Hell yeah!) but uh. Still need a title for the damn thing.
My husband has helpfully suggested "Haley's Cool Poemz." May we all have such supportive spouses.
games that ask you to play as a mother, to parent as a mother, that complicates and interrogates the experience of being a mother. i mean the material reason those games don't exist is because women do not often make it that high up in the hierarchy of game dev compared to men.
i think a good question to ask is: why aren't there any "mom games" but "dad game" is a defined genre
If nothing else I managed to finish a poem draft that I had saved as one single line and a title for nearly two years, and I think it's pretty damn good as well.
Finally *finally* pulling together my second chapbook and good grief the ordering of these poems is like doing deadlifts. Each one takes so much effort to lift up and haul into place.
Also taking any and all advice on titles. They are still so hard!
(Don't mistake me though, I'm having a blast!)
Fully living my dream!!!! We watched it live at home. Absolutely stupendous.
a dog trying to bite a rainbow reflection on a wall the dog is labeled THE POEM and the rainbow it is trying to bite is labeled WHAT I AM TRYING TO SAY
meme or metaphor for language itself
MAKE NO ONE CAN TAKE SELF PUBLISHING AWAY FROM YOU. NO ALGORITHMS OR OLIGARCHS CAN CENSOR YOU. NO GATEKEEPERS CAN TELL YOU WHAT YOU HAVE TO SAY IS NOT IMPORTANT OR VALUABLE. NO GRANT FUNDING CAN BE WITHDRAWN FROM YOUR WORDS. NO INSTITUTION CAN BAR YOU FROM ENTERING. NO KNOWLEDGE IS UNAUTHORIZED. THAT IS WHY YOU MUST ZINES!
Love this public service announcement on a neighborhood bulletin board (looks like it got wet in the rain, that's why it's a bit blurry) "NO ONE CAN TAKE SELF PUBLISHING AWAY FROM YOU. NO ALGORITHMS OR OLIGARCHS CAN CENSOR YOU. NO GATEKEEPERS CAN TELL YOU WHAT YOU HAVE TO SAY IS NOT IMPORTANT..."🌹🥀
🚨New preprint and our results are rather concerning..
We find the "boiling frog" equivalent of AI use. Using large-scale RCTs, we provide *casual* evidence that AI assistance reduces persistence and hurts independent performance.
And these effects emerge after just 10–15 minutes of AI use!

If you get self-conscious about posting repeated promo, let me give you all my long-standing promo-hack, for free. (I'm not currently using it, but I will be soon! lol)
This is a site without an algo, but also one that does not punish links. So what you want to do is make a strategic thread.
FYI, this gallery has all the photos NASA is sharing from Artemis II in one place, with descriptions.
I appreciate these posts so much. My work life has always been steamrolled by the specter of optimization and it's at an unbearable fever pitch these days. I need the reminder, over and over, that there's no rush with art. It can be slow and imprecise and expansive and *that's the point.*
This is brilliant. The chances of me working for NASA in my own small way are slimmer every year but this is *exactly* why I want to. Thank you for sharing your reaction.
My thoughts and feelings post launch…a bit much to type out so you get to see the emotions right on my face 🥹🔭🧪
ARTEMIS!!!!!! Hell yes hell yes we're off to the moon!!
The cover of the book "The Boss" by Victoria Chang.
I haven't read a book of poetry cover to cover in a single sitting in over a year and I inhaled this one. Permanent favorite. Exquisite. I needed it. Perfect start to National Poetry Month.
FOR A STUDENT WHO USED AI TO WRITE A PAPER Now I let it fall back in the grasses. I hear you. I know this life is hard now. I know your days are precious on this earth. But what are you trying to be free of? The living? The miraculous task of it? Love is for the ones who love the work.
I waited a long time to get Victoria Chang's "The Boss" and now I am reading it exactly when I need it most and that's the magic of poetry.
