I'm a full-time, quite prolific author (gotta get those numbers up to pay the bills yeehaw) who is often asked "but what do you do about writer's block?" and boy howdy they do not like my answer, which is, "the fuck is that, just sit your ass down and write something. Shit's due in two weeks."
I am almost 40yo and have signed one check in my entire American life. It was in 2008 and only because of some weird loophole the store I worked for had. (If I wanted to buy something using my employee discount, I couldn't use a card. I had to use cash or a check.)

Anyway, despite whatever weird shit she did, I'm grateful Madonna gave this isolated girl permission to let her freak flag fly in her bedroom throughout her teen years. Also, thanks for all the club remixes, Queen. I'm still in tears over the Above & Beyond mix of WIFLFAG and Deep Dish Music.
...now, I still listen to everything she puts out hoping that this is when they she sheds the need to rehash the late 2000s over and over, but knowing that, no, at some point, a lot of music artists are just... that way. Unless you're Utada, I guess.
But, damn, I really slept on Bedtime Stories.
Supposedly she's doing a "sequel" to Confessions with Stuart Price and I'm definitely interested, but it's also clear that Boomer Madonna (no h8 here) is very much set in her ways, even if it's "my brand of weird" ways. But like how Ayu (Madonna's Japanese parallel) basically puts out snoozers...
And while I'm definitely putting Erotica/Bedtime Stories into my writing bg music playlist, I think it's safe to say that I still love albums like Ray Of Light and Confessions the most. They're just peak Weird Kid from Rural Oregon for me, lol. Even Music and AL have songs I still jam to.
And while I don't hate MDMA, I remember not really caring because by then the EDM divas were in full swing and artists like Lady Gaga were just doing it better. I listened to Rebel Heart once when it came out and never again. I listened to Madame X for the first time ever today (it came out in 2019)
Hard Candy was a hard one to suck after the win that was Confessions (an album that had me in a chokehold in hs. I remember filling out freshman intake forms for college while listening to my Sorry single CD.) It was dated when it came out, and is massively dated still (Timbaland has that effect.)
And even though I was born in the late '80s, songs from before then (so basically her first three albums) are very nostalgic because of how much they appeared in my childhood. Especially Holiday/Into the Groove/Open Your Heart/etc. That said, I'm not surprised I dropped off c. 2010.
I have now listened to every available Madonna song on streaming. Yes, even the deep cuts from soundtracks and singles that weren't on albums. I think it's safe to say that I still love Madge's voice/music, especially as a queer kid who couldn't get enough dance music/edm/house/trance.
As a kid I was really into Madonna, specifically the late 90s/early 2000s era from Ray of Light -> Confessions (including GHV2 which is how I knew her early 90s singles) but then fell off after Hard Candy/Celebrate. This week, I said fuck it, and did a discography deep dive.
