It seems to get criticised by a lot of AF 'fans' but I loved it.
Definitely in my top 3 of his books.

Bereaved family members of Covid victims write to Nigel Farage urging him to sack his Croydon candidate who said COVID was a "staged event" by the US military, with vaccines used to control the population.

When Angela Rayner underpaid Β£40,000 in stamp duty, Richard Tice said it was "morally completely indefensible” and she should resign if she had β€œany moral decency”.

Now we learn he set up four shell companies that let him avoid paying Β£100,000 he owed in tax and to then transfer the cash to Reform

Can’t believe the stories emerging about Kash Patel. He seems so sane & stable. It’s as if Robert Kennedy turned out to be as mad as a goose or Pete Hegseth a brain dead oik. Unthinkable!

I often mock my own remembering of books I've only read a year ago or so but this takes the biccie.
I had completely misremembered 99% of everything to do with it.
But to be fair, it was 40 years since my last read of it, but still tho...πŸ™„

Fair enough, I've yet to read the first two Temeraire books I have in my TBR pile.

I found it to be ok at best, the regular internal adoration of the love interest by the main character was tiresome and slightly ick at worst.

I was sceptical but they ended up being my first 7 books of the year, with the 8th on order.
So addictive.
So much fun.

The Stranger Times series by C K McDonnell
It ticks all your boxes.
And the narrator is top-tier.

Minor Annoyances No.3864
Someone recommending a book on BookSky, looking it up and rather fancying it, only to forget to note it down and forgetting what it was within a matter of hours.
(Then forlornly scrolling on the off chance someone else mentions it or reposts original post)
Deep sigh...

One of my faves, I've read it on/in multiple formats since '79.
I'm way overdue on reading it again.
(I do know that it's one that Harry Turtledove likes too.)

The added on parts at the end, courtesy of Soundbooth Theater, get progressively wackier and laugh out loud funny.
A genuine bonus for AB listeners.

I really enjoyed the introduction to Dyson Spheres back in the 80s through Bob Shaw's books.
(Didn't get around to the 3rd one)
