NottsLGBT+ Network stands in solidarity with the Nottingham City WI Committee ✊

This week, the Nottingham WI Committee Officers announced that after 16 years, Nottingham City WI will be suspending its activities from April 2026. This comes in response to the National Federation of WIs announcing that transgender women would be excluded from membership, leading to all Nottingham City WI Committee Officers and the majority of their members stepping down.

Notts LGBT+ Network stands in solidarity with Nottingham City WI Officers’ powerful decision- a decision which refuses to uphold spaces that exclude trans women. We recognise the loss of a long-standing community space and thank those who chose principle over exclusion.

In times where trans inclusion is being continually challenged, we encourage our Nottingham community to continue standing up for inclusion in their own spaces and support local organisations and groups that champion equality, such as Nottingham Women’s Centre and Sapphic Sunday, who are both proudly trans inclusive.

Organizations such as ILGA-Europe recently reclassified the UK as having "no functioning legal or administrative process for legal gender recognition." This places the UK alongside countries like Hungary and Russia in European rights rankings.

Suggesting we might read Helen Joyce at at trans-inclusive Sapphic bookclub is on a level of suggesting 'Watership Down' at pet rabbit's play-date. Telling us all to 'just get along' when people make a fuss and start leaving is also sending a msg.

Badgers on tenners and otters on fifties,
Ferrets on fivers, yeah that'd be nifty,
Weasels on twenties, much better than kings,
Mustelids are just my favourite things

Currently reading _The Bovadium Fragments_ which is one half JRR Tolkien being bilingually satirical in an anti-technological way, and one half a history of town planning in Oxford, complete with maps. Just in case that tickles anybody else's fancy.

6Music isn't awful, I think, as there seems to be a lower proportion of idiots in the audience, and most of the blather is at least music related (or somewhat unhinged). Worst bit is having BBC News break in every hour.

When I first started learning Welsh I was gobsmaked at how many Argentinians I met - coming 'home' for summer courses to keep the language alive. "Er gwaethaf pawb a phopeth, r'yn ni yma o hyd" means "In spite of everyone + everything, we are still here." www.youtube.com/watch?v=v1xU...

Cait the Proud Trans Woman
@oldladyplays@wargamers.social

Hey! It's activisting time!

This is our first press appearance for the campaign to get Zara into Canada. She's a Black trans woman from the US, came here with her husband, but he turned out to not be what she needed in a partner, and she found herself needing to leave.

She's looking for temporary housing in Vancouver, so if you're in that area, or have reliably not-racist friends there who might have room, we'd be very grateful to hear about that lead. While there are many shelters, every single one (we've contacted them all) has a wait list of at least months.

So if you can please boost this post hard, and if you can donate to our fundraiser (also listed below), we'd be hugely grateful, and we can carry on hoping to kick the door open into Canada for US trans folk.

My name is Cait Glasson; I've been an activist for 30+ years in Canada for trans and queer spaces. You can Google that name - all the results are me, unless they're a 12-year-old in Australia, who is the only other person sharing my name on the planet. We should be fairly distinguishable. I'm 59, fat, white, and old, with green hair and a side shave.

She's 12, and speaks Strine natively.

If you can't access PayPal, or don't want to, you can absolutely donate through me personally, and I will direct it to the fundraising account so you can see that it arrived there. Personally, I can accept Interac (in Canada), Wise, and am willing to look at other options if you need them. For that access, DM me here, or reach me on Signal at oldladyplays.11.

If you are able to spread the links to other platforms, that'd be like super magic wonder twin powers.

Thanks, my friends. Fly, my pretties!

Request for local support in Vancouver, and fundraiser, for helping a Black trans woman escape a bad situation in the US:

Regardless of whether trans women have any actual advantage in sport, the exclusionists are shown up by their choice of language. By continuing to call it "women's sport", they deliberately exclude trans women from being women. If they were acting in good faith, they'd say "cis women's sport".

To all our non-binary folks, we see you, we appreciate you, and we celebrate you. Your courage to be authentically you in a world that often tries to fit people into boxes is inspiring.

Why I want to lie down in public | Raquel Meseguer suffers from chronic pain YouTube video by ASHISH S SHINDE

Lying down in public because you need to rest is a radical act. Security will move you on. People will think you are homeless. But you are just in pain or tired or just need to take a moment. This is a fundamental human need. youtu.be/JuG1G33BbCs?...

While we all enjoy living our lives and celebrate with pride, we cannot forget that Stonewall, the start of the modern LGBTQ+ rights movement, was a riot against police weaponising sexual violence against trans women, like the British Transport Police are threatening to do now in light of the inconsistent, dangerous guidance issued by the UK Supreme Court.
This pride month cannot earnestly be a month of celebrating queer lives without the following pressing issues being addressed:
•	UK government departments are currently working with ‘sex matters’ an organisation dedicated to ‘reducing the number of trans people,’ while simultaneously shutting out trans voices; an egregious violation of the “nothing about us, without us” principle which remains a cornerstone in preventing violence and medical violence against disabled and minority communities.
•	Despite numerous peer reviewed studies stating trans women hold no physical advantage over cis women after a certain point of HRT, trans women are still being barred from sports - including sports such as darts, pool or chess, where physical attributes are largely irrelevant.
•	Trans people are being de facto banned from public spaces by criminalising trans dignity. The ability to safely use toilets without fear of harassment or violence is critically necessary for both work and education.
•	Civil service employees being prevented from supporting the LGBTQ+ community by arbitrarily banning pride or trans-coloured lanyards in order to “save money,” while government finances continue to be thrown away on CEO bonuses for mismanaged water companies illegally dumping sewage.
•	Trans people are regularly denied access to domestic violence shelters and survivor’s services. Nottingham survivors are lucky to have pro-trans survivor’s services available to them – it is critical that this minimum standard of care is extended to trans victims of violence across the country.

As allies and even passers-by recognise that the discrimination we face and have faced at the hands of consecutive governments is completely unacceptable, let us seize this moment to act now, and to ensure a future where we can all of us stand together in strength and in pride!

I think my highest finish was 3rd in the Diamond Championships. Maybe where I go next will be more focused on learning than gamification.

I've long run out of Welsh, and that's no longer so relevant to me; I'm finding the teaching style frustrating with Polish; and I'm sure there are better options for strengthening my French (which ideally don't need so much three-way translation via American English).

I'm quitting DuoLingo on a 1024 day streak, because that's a good number. A number of friends have already quit over the pivot to AI, and in addition I'm just not getting anything out of it.
