Just got offered a job managing a local print shop. Some mixed emotions as its a step-back from game devage, but its decent money & still graphics work. I'd keep convincing myself I'm not a sell-out but it's a small business so don't think I have to. Pretty chuffed with myself in all

I honestly don't know. It would have been a Spectrum game too. Probably one of the Gargoyle adventure games. Dun Darach, Tir Na Nog, Marsport or Heavy on the Magic.

Interesting topic. What was the earliest game you remember playing that made you think "this is art"

Love the singer on these albums, Guy Speranza. Amazing cheesy rock voice that'll put a smile on your face. Never recorded anything else to my knowledge, quit the music industry just after Fire Down Under & became an exterminator in Florida

Anyone need a good music recommendation? This one comes complete with the mind-bending mascot character Johnny the Mighty Tior. Riot. Listen to the happy hard rock of Riot

I do appreciate people saying kind things. But when I say, "What's the point?" I mean the fun of a parody, of one thing in the style of another, is the time and effort squandered on the details of something absurd. Without the effort, it's not absurd, it's just pointless.

A Tumblr post from user shinesurge with the text:

Honestly I can tell you finding out art was made by AI really does immediately, legitimately sour it for me, like people will trot this out as a Gotcha for anti-AI people but it's just making it clear they don't consider art to be the conversation that it is lol. It's similar to the way Harry Potter immediately soured for me because engaging with it while knowing the kind of heart Rowling is writing from changes the way the work feels; there isn't any moralizing or whatever that I have to do, it's easy to drop it because it's rotted in my hands.

"Oh but you LIKED this song before, nothing changed!" The conversational partner did. A very large portion of what is interesting to me about art is thinking of why the creator chose that instrumentation, or what made them want to make the thing in the first place. Finding out I've been talking to a wall completely removes an entire third of the force that art is to me, and I can't argue that anything about art or its consumption is Objectively Correct but I can argue it's fucking boring lmao

This is a really good way of looking at art -- "The conversational partner changed" is SUCH a good way of phrasing how I personally see art/writing/music/etc.

Stuff like this is perfect because it shows how utterly devoid of creativity genAI evangelists are.

Great you recreated a photo that already exists in a drawing style that only has currency because of who you're stealing it from giving the world something with absolutely no value or meaning.

Today's minute(ish) of brilliant animation is from Alice, by Jan Švankmajer. I was reminded about Švankmajer yesterday. I had previously included a clip from a short in this series of brilliant clips, but this is from his uneasy full length version of Alice in Wonderland.

GAMEDEV EASY MODE
Character levitates off the ground, the air crackles around them. Magic suddenly erupts from their eyes, the pulsating beam hits a distant tower which explodes in an suitable cinematic way.

GAMEDEV HARD MODE
Character kicks their slippers off & picks up their phone from the table.

Video games can’t escape their role in the radicalisation of young men | Keith Stuart Those of us who spend our lives gaming can no longer deny knowledge that our online communities are awash with disturbing hate speech and violent rhetoric

Why frame an article about online gaming toxicity with a picture of an Arcade? Leave Arcades alone they're an endangered species
