You're very welcome!! I'm glad I could help
I just tried a /whois on r12freon on Libera and tried contacting via Discord as well, no dice there either
Going to keep trying
I don't honestly know anything as I haven't heard from her since 2/21. She did call my dad at some point to arrange a meet-up to work on her Compaq Portable, will see if he still has it saved shortly
It's awesome to see Motoracer running there! That is such a good game
This is one of the best things about the original Serious Sam titles in my opinion, and the humor in the boss descriptions was top notch...
Binge watching Game Sack and setting up a Windows kernel debugger because of problems with updates... did someone set the time machine back to 2016?
I love this idea...
I'm Doug 2.7, the 2025 edition leaved a bit to be desired but 2026 is looking up. Version 2.8 might include some nice hotfixes
Lasers were a huge scientific breakthrough and now we use them to play with cats. Computers were also a huge scientific breakthrough and now we use them to look at pictures of cats. In other words, science was made for cats.
That tree is so pretty!!!
VCF PNW flyer
Reminder! VCF PNW in Seattle is coming up. I'll be one of the exhibitors, so if you're in the area, please come and say hi and stay for the retro goodness.
In the meantime though, back to work and World of Warcraft (Midnight is great and I'm having so much fun)
the exhibit more cohesive and "permanent"), I think this might be the right approach to go with.
Took some time off later to mess with this in VMWare first though to see if it's possible to do what I want to do... but if it is, maybe I'll bring it to physical hardware over the weekend!
drivers, programs, etc. just ready to go via PXE booting (or a CD) would make that process so much easier if I did have a failure at the show (or if I acquire something new and want to use it right away!)
I do enjoy working with things manually but especially for my backlog of projects (and making
Last year I had a PowerMac G4 die at my exhibit and I needed to replace it with another machine to get things going again. We eventually bought a Dell Precision 370 off of someone at the show, but I had to set it up live at the show to get my exhibit going again.
Having Windows, all of my updates,
deploy Windows, the games I need, any software I need, and all of the updates for Windows and that software during installation. That would make the process much easier for other hardware repairs I have backlogged too and also if I need to reimage something at the show... which I did last year!
Windows installs on three machines with a variety of games but also complicated installations like PathWorks (and integrating that with the Digital Tru64 instance I had going on FreeAXP). This took a day and a half to two days of constant work, per machine.
Using SCCM I could have it hypothetically
This year I think I want to replace both of them with something more permanent, especially as I want to go to a lot more shows next year.
The proper approach for this is probably one of my old PowerEdge servers.
Why would I use SCCM though? For preparation for last year's show, I needed to do
I'm thinking about dusting off the old SCCM 2007 idea I had for my VCF and other retro computer hobby activities...
For last year's show, I had two laptops that were running my network. One was a Linux box providing DHCP, DNS, etc. and the other was a laptop running Windows Server to use FreeAXP.
LMFAO I will totally DM her about it at some point soon! Over the past 12 years as a distro maintainer my opinions have just gotten stronger and stronger about the whole ecosystem, my team and I have seen a LOT! Most of my opinions on the topic are on security since I'm the security guy for LFS
I have a LOT of opinions on modern display technologies like this which I will totally DM you about soon (both technical and personal LMFAO)
I totally understand where Meilkoras is coming from there LMFAO

The next version will be the first released on the new build server that I'm working on over there, which has taught me a lot about the internals of Wine and WSL which I'll probably share later!
However I am especially proud of the compiler fix that I developed in GCC for the 486 CPU support!!
Alongside @kirb.me , I'm very happy to announce the release of LegacyUpdate 1.13, which includes numerous bug fixes and enhancements over the previous release. All users should upgrade! It should now be safer to run on Windows Vista, Windows 2000, and 486 CPUs!

That is so cool!!
I'm honestly glad that I'm on sabbatical for another week, it's been really good to be away and I'm slowly starting to feel more like myself again. Looking forward to spending some quality time with @teal-vt.bsky.social later this week working on a new computer <3
