The safe systems approach in Vision Zero recognizes enforcement has a role to play in curbing traffic fatalities. Now Rochester needs YOU to share what would make an automated safety camera program equitable, fair & effective at curbing unlawful driving. List of chances to participate in next post:
Here's a simple task you can do to help Rochester's bike infrastructure...ride some of our city's recent redesigns and give your honest opinion on how bike friendly it is. We will tally your answers and send feedback to city hall! Learn more here: reconnectrochester.org/2026/04/new-...
E-bikes are transformative for many riders yet confusion between pedal-assist e-bikes and much faster e-motos has fueled calls for restrictive legislation and even bans on this innovative technology. Join us May 21st to discuss what we can about it. Register here: docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1F...

While we love cargo bikes, this article makes a great case for how versatile an ordinary bike can be!
Happy to see more coverage of some upcoming safe streets projects (including our next Complete Streets Makeover in the 19th Ward) and pedestrian safety in general. www.rochesterfirst.com/community/do...
One of the best things about bikes is that, unlike cars, their infrastructure doesn't bulldoze the very nature that makes our cities livable. 🌳
It is impossible to pay to run a car and pay rent for many working familes. Lack of transit results in job loss, and /or eviction for non payment of rent.
Happy Monday! Can you spend five minutes calling the Governor's office to ask her to fully fund public transit? We're in a pivotal time and need all the support we can get! Our statewide coalition New Yorkers for Transportation Equity put together a call script to make this even easier!

Great message from Assemblymembers Rivera and McMahon on the importance of fully funded transit! Remember that you can still voice your support with @nyfte.bsky.social Action Network campaign! (link in next post) buffalonews.com/opinion/arti...
"It is highly energy-efficient, costs almost nothing, reduces congestion and pollution, and obviates the need for huge car parks. Yet it is not the self-driving electric car, as tech moguls and car industry executives imagined. Rather, it is the humble bicycle."

This is so true! From lack of enforcement for dangerous driving to sprawling land use patterns to emissions loopholes for trucks and road maintenance, driving is baked in to our legal system while rights for pedestrians, cyclists, and bus riders have not caught up.
Where would you like to see streets opened up to walking biking and outdoor dining? #OpenStreets #RochesterNY

Technology changes but geometry endures.
A wonderful summation of the joy you get from truly experiencing your city vs plowing through it at high speeds. This is a beautiful tribute to active mobility. It's hard to pull a specific quote because every part is so beautifully written and so painfully TRUE!
It's possible to have walkable, narrow streets that can still accommodate a fire truck. We just need different fire truck designs! opticosdesign.com/blog/if-you-...
"Reliable, safe and convenient transit is not a luxury. It is a lifeline. It connects people to opportunity, supports financial stability and fuels regional economic growth."

It is no longer possible for Rochester residents to pay $1200 for rent and $500 to run a car, on $20 an hour. The jobs are in the expensive suburbs without housing. Transit justice is housing justice. Fix the housing and transit crisis. Its connected. @reconnectroc.bsky.social @rmapi.bsky.social
It's always a joy to join the National Bike Summit to meet cycling advocates from across the country! We toured DC by bike, saw some fascinating talks, and met with our representatives to lobby for safe streets funding at the federal level. Thanks @bikeleague.org for another great year!
