As a case analogous to that of a godless universe, I thought of what I called an 'automatic sweetheart,' meaning a soulless body which should be absolutely indistinguishable from a spiritually animated maiden, laughing, talking, blushing, nursing us, and performing all feminine offices as sweetly as if a soul were in her. Would any one regard her as a full equivalent? Certainly not, and why? Because, framed as we are, our egoism craves above all things inward sympathy and recognition, love and admiration.

... The godless universe would be exactly similar. Even if matter could do every outward thing that God does, the idea of it would not work as satisfactorily, because the chief call for a God on modern men's part is for a being who will inwardly recognize them and judge them sympathetically. Matter disappoints this craving of our ego, so God remains for most men the truer hypothesis[.]

-- William James, "The Meaning of Truth," 1909

In 1909, William James argued that God had to be real because no-one would want an AI girlfriend, which is bad news for both William James and God

OpenAI: We’re burning money like the Joker. A miracle needs to happen for us to turn a profit

Microsoft: Please please use our AI systems, we’re teetering on the edge here

Anthropic: I wonder what’ll kill us first: lawsuits, regulations or model collapse

Men who put "Gym" at 5.30am every day as an entry in your outlook calendar visible to everyone you work with: what is wrong with you. No one is booking a meeting with you at that time. You can just mark personal events as private. Also you are not getting enough sleep

But when we crave power over life—endless wealth, unassailable safety, immortality—then desire becomes greed. And if knowledge allies itself to that greed, then comes evil. Then the balance of the world is swayed, and ruin weighs heavy in the scale.

And then finish things off with a tax exemption for £30,000. Leaving only £ 4,670.50 open to taxation and NI deduction. This is absolutely disgraceful.

Why did they consider it value for money...ah, because Mandelson had asked to be paid the FULL 4 YEARS, amounting to more than half a million. He really has no sense of shame nor any kind of morals. Perfect fit for this government.

While 57 people had pay-outs in a similar range, I wonder how many had only worked for the department for 7 months and 8 days? And that is good value for money?? Plus he had a salary increase within those 7 months!!

#UK #Politics Now, nothing against Mandelson for getting the maximum out of severance pay, but this is clearly showing that we are not all equal...especially the tax exemption I find rather offensive. See skeets below for the details.

Me to 3yo: What do you want for your birthday party theme?

3yo: “Poopoo & peepee theme! We can get apple juice for the pee, so a skeleton pees and you drink the skeleton pee but it’s okay because it’s juice”

Me: ..K I was thinking like “dinosaurs” but let’s put a pin in “piss fountain of the dead”

Love this! Scapegoating AI art on disablility is trash, people with no hands paint with their feet. Artists through history are disabled! I'm one & tons of my homies. And bad art is great! People are allowed to make bad art. I wanna see every shitty amateur poem written for National Poetry Month!

Starmer must go.

He is an incompetent, dishonest, corrupt, genocidal, cowardly drama queen who is a danger to the country and a threat to our democracy.

Similar to the headline framing of a nurse who won an employment tribunal over “pronouns”.
Except it wasn’t. It was over potential breach of patient confidentiality. But you had to read the report several times
Interesting that report was only on the front page for a couple of hours.

Second Daily Mail 'sting' solicitor cleared of misconduct Immigration adviser conducted an initial exploratory meeting and did not advise on fabricating evidence for an asylum claim, tribunal finds.

Last year when the Mail undertook a similar sting, a proper investigation by the regulator showed that the lawyers had not acted wrongfully. But that never gets the coverage of the shock-horror headlines. www.lawgazette.co.uk/news/second-...

Legal advisers help migrants pose as gay to get asylum, undercover BBC investigation finds The BBC exposes a shadow industry charging migrants thousands of pounds to help them cheat the asylum system.

Disgusting reporting by BBC using a tiny number of cases to suggest widespread abuse of a system which routinely denies LGBTQIA+ individuals asylum and forces them back into environments of persecution. This article massively distorts the reality of the situation. 1/

We have police arresting peaceful pensioners protesting genocide and young people organising against climate breakdown, labelling them as terrorists, while misogyny continues to be ignored as one of the strongest indicators of escalating violence.

Southport attack blamed on ‘catastrophic’ failures by agencies and killer’s ‘irresponsible’ parents Official report says system ‘completely failed’ because some form of violence by Axel Rudakubana had been ‘unambiguously signposted over many years’

It makes me incandescent with rage that misogyny is still not being adequately understood as a predictor of mass (or serial) violent attacks.

My crim professor had to end class early the day we went over sexual assault bc the men in a large lecture hall which was mostly men kept asking the most horrific questions indicating they were just realizing they’d committed sexual assault under the law and deciding the problem was the law not them
