Safety aside, nothing builds an actual sense of community like walking. You see your neighbors, see local businesses, you just see. Nobody sees anything out of a car window.
Yes, 100 percent!
If everyone in this town was forced to give up their car for one just one week, I genuinely think the sentiment around traffic (particularly pedestrian) safety would change. I ditched my parking pass a year and a half ago, started taking the bus and walking more, and it has been an eye opener.
Today marks 20 years since the tragic death of Otto Zehm, an event that profoundly impacted Spokane and continues to shape conversations around justice, accountability, and public trust.
It took all of 72 seconds for my husband to turn his back on his Kennesaw State owls and root for the Zags
Well, if anyone needs subjects for a news story this week, I’m a Gonzaga alum and my husband is a Kennesaw State alum 😂 (and he will rightfully be rooting for the Zags)
Senator Murray and Spokane Mayor Lisa Brown are standing nect to each other and smiling.
$85 million in federal funding for bus rapid transit is headed your way, @mayorspokane.bsky.social! 🚌🚌🚌
I was proud to secure this funding for Spokane. Investing in public transit connects our communities, strengthens our economy, and gets people where they need to go!
When the world feels heavy, hang out with teenagers. I spent the morning with seniors at On Track Academy talking about projects they’ve been working on - focused on transit, mental health, and climate - and how they’re gearing up to testify on state bills. The kids are alright 🤍
Every year on my birthday, my brother-in-law (who is from NOLA) ships me a king cake directly from Louisiana. And every year, it’s the best gift I receive. 🤤🤤
Help how do I tell her I have to go back to work? 😭
My husband and I challenged ourselves to walk at least a 5K (3.1 miles) all 31 days of December. We spent a ton of time outside with the dogs and created what we now call “treadmill date night.” Turns out, we walked 8 marathons 😅
I’ve worked on a ton of great projects this year, but perhaps one of my favorites was working with the Salish School to design the mayor’s holiday card. Students from across all grade levels submitted their designs and the ultimate winner was 8th grader Trinity. Look at the detail!
