Somehow Charlottesville is ahead of NYC in considering this key procurement change. NYC arguably would benefit far more than smaller, lower density cities in terms of emergency response and less constraint on people-oriented street designs @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social

According to census data (pm 2.5), this area suffers some of the worst air quality in the whole city, which affects residents, visitors, and employers. Pedestrianization and low emissions zones are long overdue. Businesses should want to solve this problem too, instead of obstructing.

The benefits promised by autonomous vehicles won't happen if the city doesn't put the proper regulations in place first.

most media is framing this as a revenue/budget thing. mistake! metered/paid parking makes parking and driving better for drivers. you could set the money on fire and there would still benefits. focus on that. being able to invest it elsewhere is a bonus.

Yes, NYC should charge more for currently metered spaces and increase the amount of metered spaces while also thinking twice about charging for parking overall. As @saraklind.bsky.social notes, It could lock in using curbside space for car storage and create even more driver entitlement.

Five ✨Low Traffic Neighborhoods✨ in each borough by 2023 would limit cars using local streets as shortcuts, and help reach several key goals in the Streets Plan: safer, more accessible streets for pedestrians and cyclists. 🚶🏻‍♂️🚴🏾‍♀️

Gov. Hochul Vague on Free Bus Plans As Her Open Budget Salvo Nears - Streetsblog New York City Hochul has said she would neither support a plan that would deprive the MTA of a key revenue stream — fares — nor would she raise taxes to make up for the missing swipes.

"I'm not throwing cold water on any plans, but I just met with the mayor [elect] and we're having really important collegial conversations about his agenda, and so I don't want to disclose anything," the Governor told Streetsblog's Austin Jefferson.

Cyclist: Cop Pulled a Taser During Summons Chase - Streetsblog New York City In a dramatic escalation of the NYPD's criminal crackdown on bike riders, a police officer pulled a stun gun while chasing a cyclist for allegedly running a red light on a regular bike.

Every cyclist in the city should be at tonight's 6 pm rally against NYPD's policy of criminalizing minor traffic infractions — because you could be the next victim of police overreach or lethal force. @kevinduggan.bsky.social has a BLOCKBUSTER story: nyc.streetsblog.org/2025/05/30/c...

Congestion relief works – the data proves it.

The city’s leaders should stand with working New Yorkers and stand up to Washington. We can’t let out-of-touch politicians roll back the progress we’ve made.

I'm excited to share more soon about the work we're doing at @openplans.org on Low Traffic Neighborhoods and VMT. More to come!

"The faster a car is going, the more likely they are to kill or injure someone, but getting the worst of the worst drivers off the road... is a good policy solution.” - @saraklind.bsky.social
