yeah you'll notice though in your example the majority of these palettes are warm colors, and the blues are darker and on the navy/purplish side.

but again it's not impossible to get vibrant colors in cmyk it just takes a lot more work and adjustment lol

yeaaaah there's a reason b/w is dirt cheap to print but color gets hiked exponentially. In general printing matte is always easier/cheaper and interacts with ink better and more safely, but with color you're kind of forced to have to upgrade to glossy finish for the vibrancy of palettes alone

it may also have the benefit with how reflective surfaces interacts with light better so it can activate colors slightly better than matte, but ultimately it comes down to ink usage.

Yeah the reflective surface of glossy paper means more ink has to be used, and when more is used it acts more like paint. It takes forever to dry and runs the risk of smearing/running fresh from printing. Matte uses less ink + is absorbed into the paper fast but it comes out darker and less vibrant

Yes you're correct! gloss printing has a MUCH easier time with vibrant palettes than matte. Why posters are often printed glossy

Anytime!! And yeah from the looks of it there was zero adjustment for conversion so what you posted is excellent examples of what works in rgb vs what doesn't in cmyk for artist references

it's not impossible to color test cmyk to have minimal quality loss but it takes a LOT of printer setting fennagling and print color testing. But in general avoiding cool palettes makes cmyk printing easier

Basically yeah the art book isn't badly printed! It's just color printing theory in action

yup, cmyk is the bane of us all LOL if you do print of any kind it's easier to color in cmyk palettes rather than starting rgb and converting to cmyk after

mostly rgb benefits from having blacklighting in monitor screens to enhance colors. anything in neon/hot spectrums doesn't exist in cmyk

you'll notice in the examples you posted the magenta-yellow scale matches closest to the rgb images! While the cyan disappear completely into silver or grey

yes this is very normal rgb vs cmyk quality loss. bright saturations that exist in rgb don't cross over to cmyk, especially with cyans/bright blues. I knew colorists who were trained to never use any blues (i.e. leaning toward purples or greens) to avoid quality loss

fuck sam altman forever for taking away the last places where we could engage in good faith: the creative arts, which should be a testament to human ingenuity. i am so mad that everything i read or listen to or admire is now tainted with doubt. do you understand? he is a thief of joy and i HATE HIM

Some people have misunderstood this.

We literally saw how Claude itself, coded by Claude, turns one API call into a DOS of thousands upon thousands of API calls done in the sloppiest fucking way possible.

This postmortem shows Bluesky vibecoded a function to DOS itself, in a similarly stupid way.

you ever hear a chorus and know for a fact you're going to hear it in protests for the next 30 years

they weren't quiet about it, what? I've been seeing headlines from all the named celebrities for at least a year.

but also I'm totally fine with them announcing their AI projects. I want open disclosure so I know who to hate for the rest of my life and theirs

it has actually kept me up at night how that guy gets paid more than I do

16 hours ago 5 0 1 0

all I know how to do is a decent amount of CSS and basic javascript and that probably makes me a better coder than anyone on the bluesky staff who gets paid to use Claude. the irony would be delicious if I wasn't poor.

the staff running this place are so fucking stupid and the beautiful thing is they're going to die mad about it

16 hours ago 51 1 1 0

bluesky staff trying to block gAI-haters because they're so salty and embarrassed at being yelled at for using Claude to break their own website only to be found out because the users who were blocked couldn't access their TL feeds is funnier than anything I can come up with and that annoys me

it wasn't exactly hard research, it was just like "what do desert people wear and why" and you get explanations as to how it heat regulates and info on the materials/styles. but I am glad that I nailed it!!

there's really no way S2 is going to live up to how fucking solid S1 was because Rabbit isn't around anymore but I'm still losing my mind at every second of Vergil in this trailer so I'm going to be totally normal in May

also watched Michael Hoffman's 1999 "A Midsummer Night's Dream" mostly for Stanley Tucci as an impeccable Puck and 1800s Italian fashion but was completely knocked on my ass by Rupert Everett's slinky gay twunk Oberon. the fact he wasn't making out with Tucci for fun made this adaptation a 3/10 imo
