In these one party states, the governing party finds new ways to suppress citizen efforts to pursue popular policy goals on health insurance, abortion, sick leave, and pay.

It doesn't matter what Tucker Carlson, Marjorie Taylor Greene or Candace Owens has to say as long as Republican members of Congress are fully behind Trump on Iran.
The purpose of a system is what it does.
Any reasonable lawyer who has read the memo knows that this is not what it requires, so Mizzou is just performing racism to satisfy racists. Also this rhetorical slip was absolutely made easier by people who conflated DEI with race/affinity spaces and I hope everyone is learning their lesson.
If you’re an engineer in the US with Iranian colleagues, they probably graduated from here. It’s MIT caliber. What the fuck are we doing.
THREAD.
Substack is evil. I can't emphasise this enough. Their line that anyone can leave easily & take their subscriber list with them is bullshit. I left & it cost me a large sum of money. It forced me briefly back onto Substack to try to clear up the mess... tomcox.substack.com/p/an-explana...
People should actually be very alarmed that while AP's business model is shot to bits, Americans are still very much reliant on the news it delivers. The alternatives in some cases are inferior or non-existent.

“You are not entitled to a response from us, or anyone, ever,” is what an Education Department spokesperson wrote to one of our reporters,
@megomatz.bsky.social, after she repeatedly tried to get comment from the department and its officials.

Get in loser, we're doing 2017 takes
stunning combination of smug and stupid
Guys, the President was literally threatening to invade the territory of a NATO country earlier this year, to the point where they had to deploy troops to deter it. That has consequences.
The #BrokenTimes loves to profile extremists, giving them what they crave: attention.

"I am stating publicly that I can generalize about how all the members of this racial minority have low intelligence and no morals. But please do not call me a racist"
Sorry but in what world has Trump been "intently focused on making sure Iran never had the nuclear fuel in hand to build a nuclear weapon," let alone for the last decade?
He withdrew from the JCPOA to spite Obama, and because it was what every Republican wanted him to do.
As someone who studies politicization of democratic militaries this statement on X is a five- alarm fire. It creates an undeniable permission structure for overt partisan behavior by mil. It's part of a concerted effort by civilian leaders to turn the U.S. military into a partisan aligned force.

FYI: I am going to stop summarizing Supreme Court decisions on here as they come down. One comment has been plucked out of context of all my reporting, misread, and used as the basis of a mean-spirited pile-on. I am not going to subject myself to this. If this was your goal, then congratulations.
Right, simply entertaining this challenge as if it's remotely legitimate is already discrediting.
If there's a single vote to end birthright citizenship, we need to take this Supreme Court apart with sledgehammers and start over.
I expect this from the WH as it is run by vainglorious pissbabies.
But these are deeply disturbing, cowardly, and credibility-torching choices by Getty and AFP.
They’d rather the country be poorer and whiter than rich and diverse. Of course when the pie shrinks, the rich will demand the same amount and will tell you the crumbs you’re left with are because of immigrants or trans people or DEI. bsky.app/profile/apne...
"ICE agents will be stationed outside graduation events for the nation’s newest Marines to identify whether any of their family members are undocumented, according to the Marine Corps."
you notice this everywhere when you really start paying attention, and it’s totally infuriating

"Israel" doesn't start with a J.
it looks from the outside like the NYT adopted an advocacy position on the anti-trans side. anti-trans people rarely have issue getting a byline or a story-defining quote in the Times when no trans person is ever given that chance?
I don't want advocacy from the NYT, I want fairness.
The fact that the assault on birthright citizenship has gotten this far, despite the plain text of the constitution, is astonishing. It also reveals some flawed assumptions about intellectual diversity, which sometimes involves resuscitating a dead and discredited idea b/c powerful people want to.
“This administration is finally going to give the veterans what they want,” VA Secretary Doug Collins said last March.
Yet veterans across the country told us it has become more difficult to get treatment, as hundreds of therapists have left the VA.
Important thread. Hegseth has blown a gasket. He needs to go. ASAP.
What's really going on here is twofold. First, the anti-trans "reporters" on this issue do not know their own beat.
As I've said before, the anti-trans argument is a conspiracy theory. It posits that the medical field is handing out surgeries to kids at the slightest hint of gender nonconformity.
The NYT is being disingenuous here. The AMA has *always* said that gender-affirming surgeries should generally be reserved for adults. That's part of why so few kids get them!
The AMA reiterated this position and the NYT is characterizing it as a policy change. It's not.
