The MoSCoW prioritization framework is useful when building your manufacturing website (the lowercase Os are make it pronounceable):

→ Must haves: "this is a hard requirement"
→ Should haves: "the site needs to..."
→ Could haves: "wouldn't it be cool if?"
→ Won't haves: "nope, we ain't doing that"

Quit copying your competitors. They have no clue what they're doing either. I think the best ideas come from outside your immediate field of view.

Digital marketing for manufacturers is definitely "caught and not taught."

What sells in SaaS or pro services doesn't really work when your sales cycle might be a over a year. There's also a huge after-the-sale component that needs to be factored in.

If your web dev/designer/SEO consultant doesn't have a graveyard of side projects, you should fire them for one who does.

So much of the required knowledge building and promoting websites is gained from experimenting and breaking things.

If I lost everything and had to rebuild from scratch, I’d follow this plan:

1. I'd narrow my positioning on a boring but profitable industry
2. I'd spend 70% of my time on sales & marketing, 20% on delivery, 10% on admin
3. I'd productize instead of treating every project like a unique snowflake

“Plans are nothing, planning is everything.” — Dwight D. Eisenhower

In web design and development, the point isn’t to create a perfect plan. It’s to uncover the wrong ideas early while they’re still cheap to fix.

The scariest animal in the business world is the HiPPO (Highest Paid Person’s Opinion).

I once worked on a healthcare web app where the color scheme was black and hunter green. It was chosen because it matched the boss’s wife’s favorite jewelry brand. Yikes.

Happy Friday!

Debugging? Could be worse.

One trading algorithm bug cost Knight Capital $440 million in 30 minutes. 3X their annual profit. Gone.

Helps me keep perspective LOL.

Plan your website maintenance or it will plan it for you.

Websites don’t run themselves. A maintenance plan keeps updates on your schedule and reduces the chance of downtime.

Skip it, and you’ll be scrambling during a launch or campaign.

My fav part of attending the Made in Georgia manufacturing event was hearing the tariff perspectives from reps from Japan, Canada, and Mexico. They were insightful (and diplomatic).

Shout out to the Atlanta Business Chronicle and Georgia Assn of Manufacturers for the event at TKE Elevator.

B2B marketers: stop saying you’re not technical!

Mindset is everything when it comes to learning technology. None of us were born knowing how to code. When you tell yourself “I’m not technical,” you shut the door on what you could learn.

Own it. You’re more technical than you think.

The worst client meeting of my career was 15 years ago, but I still remember it. He made us feel like serfs wasting a nobleman’s time, then asked why he should pay me when he could do it himself.

These days I’m more mindful of who I sit across the table from. Thankfully that S.O.B. is retired.

R3C ("wreck") your website in order to improve it.

Remember 3Cs:
➔ CLARITY: is it clear what your company does, and who you do it for?

➔ CONGRUENCE: do the elements (copy, graphics, design) work in harmony?

➔ CONVERSION: are there obvious next steps and calls-to-action?
