You're looking at velvet malachite, Cu2CO3(OH)2.

A few warnings:
Please resist the urge to touch it to feel how soft it is.
Absolutely /do not/ lick it.
Keep far away from any Supermen.
If a wingéd creature emerges, do not agree to any pacts.

Let's talk about the science here.

We are looking at a painting of St Liphardus - a 6th-century lawyer, hermit and abbot in Meung-sur-Loire near Orléans, France. He is wearing bishops clothing including a surplus and mitre and is holding a crook. On a lead is a small knee high green and blue dragon.

We’re very sorry sir but you cannot bring your emotional support dragon in here.

a circuit board with a d-shell connector with only 3 sockets. there's a bit of plastic around it marked HP, so presumably it is from some test equipment.

Ok, two comments about the soundtrack. I shall have to find and try out this one. Perhaps run it in dosbox or an amiga emulator.

If you were asked to translate Beowulf into modern English, how would you translate ‘Hwæt’?

I Did Not Tell Death Where I Lived

I did not tell Death where I lived –
But he has found me all the same.
I hear his knock upon my door
And the calling of my name.

My Snapchat settings kept him out.
On Instagram I blocked him.
Facebook friend requests were spurned –
Yet still he keeps on knocking.

A court injunction freshly filed,
But still I sit in fear.
Oh, my mistake. It is not Death –
I think my pizza’s here.

A man is chased through a tunnel by a malicious waterfowl.

A man is chased through a tunnel by a malicious waterfowl.

John's calves burned with each step, and a sharp pain pierced his abdomen. As he neared the safety of daylight, the sound of webbed feet slapping concrete grew louder. He risked a look over his shoulder, and found himself staring directly into the beady eyes of fate. He screamed.

I love the irony of the fact that the art is physical, no actual computer graphics are shown in the ad.

(To be fair, it was actually hard to get computer graphics onto the printed page in that era, so most ads for games and software used traditional media instead of screen shots.)

In this William Geise illustrated ad, the title "Computer Graphics" appears up top, being cast from a giant Apple II monitor on an iceburg; the casts are a gradiant from purple to orange to yellow to green to blue to purple again, hewing towards neon tones. From the tan Amdek monitor flies a red biplane, a parachuting penguin, and a leaping unicorn; dolphins jump from the ice into the monitor. Around the iceberg, a sea otter peeks up, a penguin tap-dances, and a whale tale lifts a unicorn on a floe. The monitor is sitting on a giant Apple II. Down below, breathless text describes three different programming packages: "For the artist: Special Effects by David Lubar and Mark Pelezarski. Paint on your computer in over 100 colors with 96 different brushes!" "For the designer: The Complete Graphics System II by Mark Pelezarski. Everythign needed for computer-aided design." "For the programmer: The Graphics Magician by Mark Pelezarski, David Lubar, and Chris Joehumson. Add fast, smooth animation and hundreds of pictures to your programs." In the bottom left, the penguin software logo appears next to ordering information, with a sunfish floating to its left; at the very bottom it says, "All Penguin applications products are now on unprotected disks for your convenience."

Someone patched GIMP to look and feel exactly like Adobe Photoshop.

Same keyboard shortcuts. Same tool layout. Same everything.

It's called PhotoGIMP and it's free.

I ate your PLUMS and I cannot lie
I'm guilty and I won't deny
That when I found them kept in a pretty chilly place
yeah I put them in my face
and man, YUM, couldn't have enough
'Cause you know that my tum is stuffed,
But you were breakfast saving,
Your forgiveness now I'm craving
