#WritingInJanuary Day 28
A week after Darius didn't return to their hideaway, the thought he was actually missing finally set in for Shin. And it hit him very hard. He wept for a time. First his parents. Now his uncle. In that moment, in that place, he was powerless, vulnerable, and truly alone.

It takes place in the early chapters, and is a moment that will establish a lot of things about the current Drae, for both him and the readers...

Another old snippet, one I shared with a draft of Shin's character redesign. I was proud of it. It was a scene I had in my mind for a long time, after I reworked the story years ago. Shin's first interaction with the outside world in over 10 years.

Strange Monday!
Unique circumstances! The prankster wouldn't even get the chance to shout the phrase, let alone land the punch. I'm certain Shin would intercept their fist with his palm and throw the poor fool a few yards away!

MC Habits.
Stargazing is one. It's an important part of Shin's character, and becomes an on-going story element. He does so to contemplate, ponder, regulate. To relax. Whether after an informative day, or the night before an important event or mission β¨

Project Drake was initially very silly in its youth, built upon pure shonen shenanigans etc. Now it's a completely different story, that balances the action & epic. I'd also intended for it to be a comic, but I had a change of vision in 2024, due to logistics.
Just a reminder, the first three books in my series: Talia: Heir to the Fairy Realm, Talia: On the Shore of the Sea and Fairy Court in Exile are available on the Audible Unlimited plan.
Book 4 is in production and should be available soonish.
All are read by my wife.

Cover for the book "First Light - Event Horizon" by Daniel F. Bispo, showing a starship flying across space, with stars and a space station in the background.
Hey you know how the other day, I said I was getting a cover for First Light and was really excited to share it?

Random sentence without context:
"This madman breaks into my cellar, drinks all of my rice wine, and has the gall to ask me for a favour?"

Shin would choose the spoon, as he wouldn't want to waste good food! I think he'd also choose it to work in a corny line before the fight begins, like "Let's cook..."

Hobbies.
I enjoy skateboarding and playing guitar. Pop culture hobbies, I enjoy PC gaming & Nintendo. I also have a passion for trading cards, and a deep love for Digimon Vpets & devices. I love the franchise with all my heart!

Shin has two big weaknesses.
The first being an issue "controlling" certain emotions. The second is his lack of knowledge on the current world and how it works, since he's been sequestered for 10 years.

Hey I heard you like fantasy with a swords and magic and all that fun stuff, but still want great dialogue, strong, complex characters, a dash of romance and a spoon full of political intrigue?
And it has bisexual women who actually have long-term relationships with women?
You found it.

#WritingInJanuary Day 15
Really such a great question. There's a fair mix of both good & worse. But I think a lot of the relationships that change for Shin are internal. How he perceives the world, the people, reflecting on what he was taught in past and what he learns on his journey.
#WritingInJanuary Day 14 (CATCH UP)
The last spring he shared with Darius, before he disappeared. Maybe it's imprinted more because he misses him, but he genuinely loved their springs. More sun, more life, more activities; their hideaway and their days becoming a little warmer coloured.

Not applicable to me yet. However, Iβm carefully crafting it with this concern on the forefront. Easier said than done, but as Iβve mentioned, I love subtle clues, hints & nuance. Foreshadowing is my middle name; remember that one!

"Idiot Sandwich"
Honestly, Shin wouldn't know he's being insulted, sheltered upbringing and all. Clued by instinct, he'd ask: "Can I eat it?" I don't think he'd know what a sandwich (or a "Gordon Ramseyβ) is ahaha. He's very well versed in the word idiot though!
#WritingInJanuary Day 11 (CATCH UP)
There is one crucial moment where REDACTED realises REDACTED is different. It's probably the first real sign of a romance thread that the reader will pick up on. It's subtle, but perceptible. Right now, it's set to happen in arc #4, Saga #1.
