I like this because it articulates the conservative concept of freedom in a nutshell. You have the freedom to do x, except you don't, because I don't want you to. bsky.app/profile/atru...

The last time I tried to engage with Jay Bhattacharya in dialogue I ended up on administrative leave. 🤷♀️
I wish this were a bit. Science and antiscience are not the two sides of science. Much of the criticism you are receiving is because people were not born yesterday and they actually are familiar with disinformation campaigns and science denial
This is satire, right? It’s like debating a flat earther or an AIDS denialist.
I won't attend for the same reason that I would not attend a conference about the Holocaust where Holocaust deniers were invited speakers.
You consider cutting NIH grants for political reasons advocating for scientific reform? Really?
You know this is shameful. He literally has destroyed NIH--he's not an advocate for reform. I am shocked you and the NAS think he should be platformed--he was just at CPAC USA, destroying anything that was left of his credibility
Pointing out that NAS platforming those actively destroying science is a truly terrible idea isn’t “vitriol” or “ang[er]”.
It’s simply pointing out that NAS platforming those actively destroying science is a truly terrible idea. And, to put it mildly, unbelievably disappointing.
Rarely has a people had such an *opportunity* to stop the evils of their government as we do right now. If we impeach and remove Trump, we will avert additional crimes against humanity. If we do not, history will judge us harshly. All of us. Yes, even me and you.

On a more serious note, this does show the necessity of a big-tent single-issue pro-democracy coalition. Autocrats lose when anti-authoritarianism is the opposition-uniting priority, and win when they can play divide and conquer on lesser issues.
After taking time to connect with the Pretti family and with their consent, we are honored to share that we have created the Alex Pretti Nursing Scholarship.

He quotes a conservative activist: "What really motivated the Tea Party was a deep, philosophical disagreement with Obama about what government should be." Yeah, if there's anything I remember about the Tea Party, it's all the deep philosophers. Were they the ones holding "Go Back to Africa" signs?
I was just thinking about this today. How do we create the same sense of inevitability - that this movement is a serious and inescapable consequence of feckless government?
The airports don't work and he started a war of choice that he botched and now people can't afford gas but, hey, Trump's racism still works. And that's the only thing his supporters need to work.

"Donald Trump’s disgusting racism is what he uses to convince his supporters to ignore his pathetic job performance. And it works. Trump is objectively bad at running the government, but he’s objectively good at running a Klan rally."
@elienyc.bsky.social nails it here
I defended my PhD 10 years ago today. That was the least remarkable thing that happened that day. Sharing something I wrote about it last year. Since then "the horrors persist but so do we." And with dignity.
41 years old, evacuated here legally, asylum case pending, kidnapped while driving his six children (one a US citizen) to school. Dead within 24 hours.
Betrayed and murdered by the United States government.
42nd confirmed and reported death in ICE custody under Trump.
this is how he chose to publicly defend his email to Epstein. I audibly gasped "eww"
now do chem lab w/o safety glasses 😤
There are reports the man shot by ICE died - and that ICE attempted to get state officers to leave the scene, but the state officers are trying to stay to preserve the crime scene.
Also reports that ICE has detained - or is detaining - possible witnesses.

from what I can see, the video shows a beating followed by an execution.
Picture of the a plaque at the German Resistance Memorial in Berlin.
You did not bear the shame.
You resisted.
You bestowed the eternally vigilant symbol of change by sacrificing your impassioned lives for freedom, justice and honour.

Rather than comforting ourselves with things that didn’t happen, we should be asking questions that actually strengthen our resilience.
For example, what is it about American society that encourages us to accept extreme cruelty as a normal fact of life? How do we push back against this in future?
i was talking with someone in the twin cities about how it’s not even accurate to call them protesters. they’re literally just people protecting their city from TERRORISTS.
Homeland Security & @DHSgov X.com Law enforcement uses 'reasonable suspicion' to make arrests, as protected under the Fourth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. The Supreme Court has already vindicated us on this position. A person's immigration status makes them a target for enforcement, not their skin color, race or ethnicity. @TriciaOhio
DHS getting basic 4th Amendment law wrong on its official Twitter account.
Seems like this post is bound to show up as an exhibit in one of the cases challenging ICE/Border Control enforcement actions.
graph showing the top 10% now account for about 48% of consumer spending. the bottom 80% collectively account for about 37%
The top 10% now account for nearly half of all consumer spending.
When I lecture to students about how the apparently thriving economy of the 1920s was really a house of cards just waiting to be knocked down, one of the points I stress is how much a small number of the very rich were essentially propping up consumer spending in unsustainable ways
