I'll simply say again that for Shlaes to resurface in The Economist at this moment is an indicator of an ambient concern that Rooseveltian policies and politics are increasingly likely. The thing about the New Deal is, it was *immensely popular.* That's terrifying to certain people
Forget about the substance, the reveal that “most of” the justices talked to Mollie Hemingway for her book is bananas. Hemingway is a right-wing freak who runs a conspiracy theory blog. If literally any of the justices are taking this person seriously, the Supreme Court is GONE gone.
Hey, Beshear, Lis Smith, & associated Majority Dem-types:
If you want to kill group-speak, how about we start with “officer-involved shooting,” “ice agent involved-shooting,” “weaponized vehicle” & other mealy-mouthed obfuscations of state-sanctioned murder?
Palantir put out the most cartoonishly evil statement possible. They’re so arrogant and self-confident they don’t seem to believe their fascistic plans can be opposed.
We must get rid of Palantir altogether.

A peer reviewed study shows a promising link between flu and shingles vaccines and a reduced risk of dementia. A heroin addict who cut off a raccoon’s penis for “further study” says these vaccines cause autism. For busy Americans, it can be hard to know who to trust.
ZOHRAN: “TBH, I don’t think too much about how Republicans portray me. The power of an ideology is judged in the worth of its delivery— to be told a city-run grocery store is implausible but $500 MILLION/day to kill ppl in Iran & Lebanon is necessary speaks to a broken politics.”
I think part of the reason the Pope thing is hitting so much is that modern life is so devoid of *any* morality, any system of right and wrong that is not completely hollow and fraudulent, which hits as halfway sensible and opposed to Trump and those like him, feels absolutely revolutionary
It's a sign of a failed society when it continues to platform people who consistently get big things wrong. We should not still be subjected to most of the people writing Op-Eds at the New York Times who spent DECADES getting everything about war AND peace wrong.
Schumer is out of step with his caucus and should step aside.
Literally just QAnon. "Big week ahead." "Booms incoming." "SOON."
It's all just a big prosperity scam.
DoorDash's head of public affairs said "no one is claiming it was a real delivery." I found a few people who were claiming that: Reuters, ABC, CBS, the AP, Fox, Newsmax, The Hill, the New York Post, and CSPAN, for starters. www.readtpa.com/p/a-real-del...
"There is no justification for a regressive system in which the super-rich contribute less than the rest of us," write @josephestiglitz.bsky.social, @gabrielzucman.bsky.social, and @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social.

Everything is fucking dumb all the time now
Yes I am victim blaming, and no I don’t care: the entire industry has used fear as the cornerstone of its marketing for years; threatening people’s way of life in the abstract while damaging the economy, stealing peoples work etc. You don’t get to walk that back just because it became real for you.
DOGE turbocharged the deficit.

conservative free speech is when they speak and you listen or suffer the consequences
Tech founders are so innovative that they invented feudalism.
If you have standards or values, you can be excoriated or investigated for failing to live up to them, if you don't, you are completely free to do anything you want. That is the unavoidable lesson of the last decade of American politics.

Opinion Editorial Board America’s income tax is progressive The rich already pay more than their fair share
Unbelievable stuff from the Washington Post on behalf of Jeff Bezos today.
The ADL has gone from a civil rights organization to a pro-Israel antisemitism tollbooth
“Two can play at that game” is literally the Drebin quote here when he takes an innocent woman hostage to cluelessly fight the enemy
The same week the NYTimes was devoting its significant resources to producing this ridiculous piece about Lauren Sanchez Bezos's call for rich people to not worry and be happy, Ryan Hass, an independent journalist in Oregon, was investigating this horrifying story about a death in an Amazon plant.
I genuinely believe that people don't appreciate just how much of all the bad vibes right now are still largely a COVID hangover. It was a profoundly traumatizing event for American society, on the order of the civil war or the great depression and we've largely decided to just pretend
Winning campaign slogan here if anyone wants it.
We should be taking notes.
So JD Vance traveled to Hungary to endorse a candidate who appears likely to lose and then went to Pakistan to fall on his face with the Iran negotiations. Truly an impressively terrible international trip.
One of the ways news media often fail us is by giving us the microscopic rather than the telescopic view. Everything I mention in this essay is well-documented, but the dots are mostly not connected to make visible this death by a thousand cuts our country is undergoing.
