Smiling white woman with glasses and white hair holding the Ethiopian adoptee anthology “Lions Roaring.” Book cover has an Ethiopian woman in traditional dress next to a roaring lion.
As co-editor, I highly recommend “Lions Roaring Far From Home: An Anthology by Ethiopian Adoptees.” A range of perspectives, from 30+ writers ages 8 to 50+, raised in 6 different countries. First ever by Ethiopian adoptees. Brilliant and diverse essays and poems. Vivid, powerful, valuable.
International adoptees are #immigrants. Thousands don’t have #citizenship. Some have been deported. Some live in fear of that, & of denaturalization. Get the Certificate of Citizenship. Contact & donate to @adopteerights.bsky.social. Advocate for the Adoptee Citizenship Act in Congress.
One challenging part of #elderhood is invisibility. Only a superpower if you’re into shoplifting; I’m not. This morning I sat alone in a sorta busy restaurant. Waitstaff went past me several times. I was looking only for acknowledgement, not instant service. It’s a humbling shift in awareness.
As an adoptive parent of now adult children, I urge folks to follow adoptees on this platform. Elevate their voices first. And then, sure, please follow me too. Thank you!

Finishing up a consultants’ retreat in Newport, OR. My 11th year here, my third time as a co-convenor. We use #OpenSpace technology. Would love to see that applied to #adoption community conferences. Presented a session on Gratitude, Remembrance, and Grief, all topics I continue to ponder.
Thank you!
Hamish, a Border terrier puppy, and I took a selfie. Very nice of both of us.
