There's been this incredibly large push against giving meaning to any speech from a politician because too many "hypocrites" do something other than what they say. Yet, I think speech is very very important. And this short clip I found compelling in dark times. More of this simple message, please!

The @bankofcanada.ca recently launched a new publication, "Sparks at Bank", to share research and analysis from staff in an accessible format. The inaugural edition includes some work I was involved with on the Toronto condo market. Have a read!

My brother's film, Three Threads, is live on YouTube as part of the Bandra Film Festival: youtu.be/qvnAxc8hX6o?...
The film follows a weaver in Kutchh who weaves stories of industrialization, deforestation and hope into his tapestries. Give it a watch! #documentary #film #handloom #rannofkutch
Yep, Covid markets in general have been quite bad. My year (2023) was the start of the tech firings, so industry jobs were dramatically low in the end. This year seems like the worst one in a while!
I was in this exact place two years ago. So if this is you, and you want to talk to someone about next steps, or even just vent, please feel free to reach out. And don't lose heart, or hope -- this sucks, but it's a transitory state of the world. #EconSky
As the first round of the #EconJobMarket shakes out in different ways for soon-to-be PhDs, there are inevitably some who haven't got an offer at this point. This can be a scary and lonely and frustrating place to be, and doesn't feel especially great. #EconSky
Really interesting and important thread. Often, we tend to focus on the benefits of high skill immigration (rightly so, too) but there’s a growing case for *any* immigration being not just beneficial but also necessary in certain countries and contexts (including, e.g., Taiwan!).
Rest well, Manmohan Singh! The 13th Prime Minister of India was unlucky in the way he was portrayed, yet stood as a stark contrast to his successor: took open questions from the Press, was dignified in his remarks, and brought in much needed, sensible reforms as Finance Minister in 1991. A good man.
Seems like a bad within party equilibrium: the powers that be don’t want to relinquish party control, keep permitting/encouraging exodus of popular INC faces that might challenge them. Happy with internal control which necessitates letting go of broader ambitions? Sucks for the country, for sure.
Interested in inequality research? Here is a starter pack containing research centers / institutes / organizations dedicated to the study of socioeconomic inequality.
Time seemed ripe as, finally, organizations are moving to Bluesky. Let me know if others should be added.

Even in the south towards Faridabad/Agra or Gurgaon, it’s basically all just ‘city’. Delhi’s sprawl is relentless!
