I think that’s why the death of a man I never met is hitting me so hard. He found a way to fill my heart with joy and hope, and helped spark a passion I’ve carried my whole life. I didn’t have to meet him for him to know how to speak to my soul.
May your memory be a blessing, Rob and Michelle. 💔

The first time I watched The Princess Bride, I knew I wanted to be a storyteller. I’d never seen a movie that broke so many rules, but still worked so well. The villains are actually the heroes? The damsel is willing to kill herself? The hero wins by bluffing? It broke my ten-year-old brain.
For me, Rob Reiner was like the tapestry on the wall in your grandparents’ living room. You see it so much that it becomes part of the background of your life, like it’ll always be there; when it’s gone, everything feels off.
I’ve never lived in a world without Rob Reiner. Everything feels off.
I can’t wrap my brain around the murder of Rob Reiner and his wife Michelle. I never met them, but by all accounts they were a lot like the characters in Rob’s films: charming, funny, flawed in a way that anyone could relate to, and full of joy. I can’t imagine how hard this is for his loved ones.
Watched My Neighbor Totoro for the first time tonight - such a beautiful, lovely movie. I feel for Satsuki and Mei, I spent much of my childhood and my entire adult life with a sick mom. Now that she’s gone…this hit pretty hard.
I wish I had a Totoro of my own. And a Catbus.
Things I didn’t expect would trigger waves of grief after losing my mom, but have:
• People noticing my haircut
• Tying my shoes
• The Marx Brothers
• The Kardashians
• Facebook – like, the whole platform
• Answering the phone
• Going to work
• Waking up
• Breathing
He is proof that if you’re dedicated to your craft and you trust yourself enough to put your heart & soul into your art, your audience will find you. There is immeasurable value in making art that’s true, even when it’s not popular.
Rest in power, David Lynch. May you find your bliss transcendent.
His films are able to blur the lines between how you experience the world…and how the world experiences you. They’re like a good scotch - complex, never settling on just one flavor. That makes it a challenge to say what they’re about. For me, it redefined what art could be.
To many people, David Lynch was just “that weird director” they never bothered to check out. They might have seen his weather reports, where he just looks outside and says what he sees.
To me, he was so much more than that. He genuinely changed my life.
What is the coolest thing you did with John this year that wasn’t for content?
Today, I fixed a TV that had a broken backlight. It cost me $40 in parts and 3 hours of labor, mostly unscrewing and re-screwing screws. The TV and parts have been sitting in my office waiting for me to do it for over a year.
In case you nee any more proof that ADHD is real.
I’ve memorized a substantial amount of the rules to D&D and multiple other TTRPGs with ease, but I couldn’t tell you the rules to Mexican Train, a simple game I’ve played dozens of times whose rules fit on one sheet of paper, if my life depended on it.
I think my brain might be broken
Sorry, got the link thing above backwards. Other platforms deprioritize links, @bsky.app seems to rather like them. At least, according to @hankgreen.bsky.social in this video, and I’m inclined to believe him since he has real examples. youtu.be/D4ghgVq9z4M
Also, @bsky.app *definitely* has an algorithm, it’s just not as ham-handed or forceful as Twitter/IG/etc. People you follow, people who have similar follows to you, and people who also talk about things you talk about seem to be prioritized over posts with outbound links, for example.
Musically? They don’t share a lot in common. Singin’ in the Rain is basically big-band jazz (like many musicals in the 1940’s & 50’s) and Wicked is more influenced by other modern musicals and a bit by pop music.

The left side of a black Arturia KeyLab 49 Essential MIDI keyboard resting on a wood plank mounted under a black desktop. An ergonomic computer keyboard with a wrist rest is partially visible in the top-right corner.
At the top of the image, a dark gray ergonomic computer keyboard with a wrist rest sits on a black desktop. At the bottom of the image, a piano keyboard on a wood surface pokes out slightly from under the desk; only the tips of the white keys and the front edge of the wood surface are visible.
Finally got sick of lugging my MIDI keyboard onto my desk every time I needed it, so I built a keyboard drawer. Now it’s always at the ready.

Right? We had such a good group. Not every day you defeat a beholder by chucking a rogue high enough to blow poison dust into its eye.
If you haven't met Hal Lublin, I highly recommend it, he's just the best. Though I think he's one of those method actors, he fully believed he was Thor for like two whole years.
Let's try not to let this one become a hellscape too, okay?
