I decided to start a Substack on everyday people doing good in the world and as I write up my first interview I'm so grateful for this quiet act of self-care.

My most rejected story to date is my favorite piece I've ever written. Ended up with the perfect home. Don't give up!

Wondering where the man on the street interviews are about stopping cancer treatments and food programs for senior citizens?? Speak up y'all, we're waiting.

I too am unstoked, and sending love (sprinkled in outrage) to the cancer community.

I roam around my house, I sigh, and I mutter, "It's ok."
It's who I am now I guess.

Trump's DoE is dismissing challenges to school book bans, calling them "meritless" since the bans are instituted by parents who are "working to protect students from obscene content."

I'm not sure what to say to any of it, so here's a picture of my dog Hope, who we adopted in 2020 during what we thought was the All Is Lost moment in this story but turned out to just be world-building for 2025.

I've had the strangest most heartbreaking week in which I reconnected with my very long-lost brother and filed for my estranged father’s death certificate on my deceased mother’s birthday. Life is wild.

Everything is so dark and heavy but I just had my last infusion after being diagnosed with breast cancer in 2021. I won’t miss the infusion center, but I’m grateful for the kind nurses who took such good care of me. Onward. 🩵

I absolutely loved the first one. The second fell a little flat for me, but I think I might be the only one?

Absolutely gutted Tahlequah the orca lost her calf...again and is carrying her around refusing to let go. Nature is a beast.

I have the most brilliant idea for a business that would fail but be beloved by a few: a book and film theater, where you buy a book and a movie screening; you’d get the book a month ahead of then arrive at the screening, watch the film, and follow with drinks, food, and book and film discussion

Super grateful for the airbnb lister who charged a minimal cleaning fee and reasonable rate so I could book myself a three night writing retreat to kick off the new year 🤩

This Is What No One Tells You About Being Estranged From Family During The Holidays "The simple question 'Are you going home for the holidays?' has always made me bristle."

Sharing an essay from a few years ago in case it resonates. Grateful for my found family and the traditions we've built together.

Fear Not: Publishing is Alive and Well — Yes, Even for Memoir and Literary Fiction By Peter Mountford As 2024 draws to a close, I’ve been sifting through the stats on Publisher’s Marketplace for the year and am pleasantly surprised that SO MANY books have been accepted for public…

Don't give up! Your story matters.

In 2024, "267 authors got memoir deals as of December 15th. This is 85% higher than 20 years ago... the past several years have been consistently high, with most years between 279 and 322 memoirs sold annually." #memoir #writingcommunity
