Image shows cards from the famous tarot deck. These are arranged as before and after comparisons of the versions currently online versus the ones the skeet author modified. One card is shown having a missing patch of image repaired, another has a large scratch removed, a third has been skewed such that the image is rectangular, and a fourth has been colour-tinted to be more consistent with other cards.
If you enjoyed our April Fools project tarot.yarnspinner.dev you might also enjoy a nice side effect of our making that: a much-improved Public Domain version of the Rider-Waite Smith #tarot deck.
I went a bit overboard in photoshop, and now they're here for all to use: themartianlife.com/tarot

After 10 years of offering first-class, complete (we thought) dialogue solutions, we learned we had been missing the most important narrative design tool of all time: Tarot.
We're sorry. We're listening, we're learning. And today, we've taken the first step: adding Tarot to Yarn Spinner 💚

When writing branching conversations, make sure that the dialogue that comes off a player choice doesn't contain any words from the options they *didn't* choose.

It occurred to to me while working on Cuphead that if you don’t have to keep the entire final sprite in a single texture, and instead can composite different layers, you can achieve further savings. E.g., if you keep flat colours on a different layer to shading and to lines, there’s more redundancy.

We explored using this in Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course, though it ended up not making it into the final release.

This is the very first game I ever made that actually shipped and was sold for money. I legit never expected to see it running again.

Considering gamedevs work on games more often than they breathe, a more challenging game jam premise would be to explicitly disallow game development for a week. The Literally Anything Else Jam.

new blog post about: makin' it easier to integrate elaborate (or not) contextual character animation stuff into gameplay in @sleightofhand.game. Like all the best shit, this is not so much technically impressive as workflowily excellent.
