If you want revenge, then dig two graves. the first one is a practice grave to get a feel for it and the second is your main or "show grave"

I know, I'm a glass half empty type of person, etc etc. But there we are. Nice to see, but what we've lost is still too weighty.

Usually a bump in the studio floor is enough to give the poor darlings pause for thought, but you don't have to point it out, Doc.

But the really sad thing (and why I never got so excited by the news of the returned episodes anyway) is we're still over 50% of the story missing.

Well, we now have 45% more of Hartnell's Doctor Who as a simpleton on laughing gay acting which I could well have done without, frankly. It's so odd. And the fluffed line in episode three "the Daleks will stop at anything!" is jaw-droppingly bad enough to have warranted a retake. I mean...

So, finally watched Daleks Master Plan 1 and 3 (with 2 for good measure) and I'm gonna say it... they're good. Actually really rather good. Quite strong stuff with actually some nice units writing. The downsides?

I was so stoked to see it used as the opener to Voyage when I saw it. What a deep cut to open on. (FWIW I do rather like Dum Dum Diddle, though. It has its place.)

Ah, once again the Guardian's sniffiest reviewer doesn't like something I quite enjoyed, for all its faults. She and some of their theatre critics should be studied to find out who hurt them as children. (Their movie reviews, oddly, I find strangely spot on.)

Definitely haven't spent two hours of my day putting together a soundtrack album for the TV series Mongrels. Because that would be insanity. (And it definitely doesn't have two bonus tracks.)

Here's a previously unpublished entry for 1001 TV Series You Must Watch Before You Die for the series Wolfblood. I leapt at the chance as I thought the show, by @debbiemoon.bsky.social, was great.

Archer – or, When Subeditors Go Wild – Rob Morris Years ago I submitted a piece on the TV series 'Archer' for 1001 TV Series You Must Watch Before You Die. Something got published in that book, but none of it was written by me despite going out under my name. So, here is what I actually wrote. [...]

So, many years ago my friend Paul (may he rest in peace) asked me to contribute some pieces for a book he was asked to edit called 1001 TV Series You Must Watch Before You Die. I picked the series I wanted to do and submitted my... er... submissions.

"Marlene and high-drama to a disco beat..." My review (which no-one asked for and I did anyway) of Belvedere Kane's "new" album 'Such Trying Times'.

Spoiler: I LOVE IT!

There is something odd about the British psyche that celebrates things in our history that weren't all that. See also Victorian England and the two world wars. And you seem to celebrate them even more if you weren't actually there.

I see the #ltmuseum are encouraging me to celebrate 70 years of the Routemaster bus. I have no inclination to do so. All I remember is them being rickety, uncomfortable and cramped. Thank God they've gone!

Today my "Doctor Who references at work" streak continued. Involved in a case involving security prices from different data providers, I was asked why we use what is often called the Security Master value.

To which my response was: "Because it is the Master. And we will obey it."

Result.

I myself know how helpful a good editor is! Vital in fact.

That would be an evil thing to do. I’d possibly go so far as to say wicked.

Some films did back in the day. They should bring those days back! (Or just learn the craftsmanship of economical writing and directing again.)

Christ, really? My rule is nothing over 2.5 hours. And even that's pushing it. I think twice about anything approaching two. (And yet I can binge watch TV shows all evening. Odd that.)

I remember the day I tracked down this CD. It arrived from the seller with a compliments slip that had scrawled on it the words "What a CAMP track!". They weren't wrong.

So there is - also on Apple Music thankfully (I don't Spotify).

Oh yes, that's the next one I want. Great album from what I have (annoyingly my favourite track is riddled with drop-outs).
