Adopted Reeses in Montana 2007. Drove home from shelter and stopped by river where I let him wade, on leash. Wet collar allowed him to slip out, and he bolted, and I thought I'd never see him again. But, he looked back once and I remembered he loved fetching, so threw a rock, and he ran back :)

Why not rename to America Geese?
Had a solo trumpeter swan flying over me on Sunday morning - it was flying fast enough that I could hear a sizable doppler shift!
I should point out that this snowy weather this time of year isn't that odd, it's just that it comes on the heels of an already noteworthy winter here in Winter City USA. Snow piles are HUGE, and it seems like a long time until things melt and dry out.
In #Fairbanks #Alaska I traditionally think of 4/21 as the start of a four month period for getting summer projects done. The time speeds by, and by 8/21 you need to start preparing for a possible early winter. This year, the 4/21 start date is a bit premature! Lows near 0F forecast for tonight
From "The Daily Stoic," by Ryan Holiday
Do the textbook reps still come on campus these days, getting your input and then slyly eyeing your bookcase for their used book market, or is it all online now?
Patriots Day holiday in what we used to refer to as the People's Republic of Massachusetts. The tradition was to take train into big city of Boston, catch the end of the marathon at Copley Square, then mosey on over to Fenway Park for the Red Sox game. Sometimes chilly, sometimes hot.
When hiking way up above Galena Cr., I learned that if I call them "The Sierras" I sound like a tourist :) I only drove as far east as Sand Mountain (beyond Fallon), but was really mesmerized with it all. Had hoped for GBNP, but didn't want to spend two full days of my short trip just driving.
Recent trip to Reno really opened my eyes to the beauty in Nevada. Prior, had crossed on I-80 in a Trailways bus in 1978, two conference trips to Vegas. Wasn't too impressed.
I learned PBS Reno has an AMAZING long-running series, Wild Nevada. Here's one great episode.

I found it interesting, evolutionary, but I reserve any significant "I'm impressed" mode until I see it run the Fairbanks Equinox Marathon on one of those snowy/muddy years. Can't imagine it surviving The Chute!
Recommended by Dan Rather in today's weekly "A Reason to Smile." I've often appreciated Rather's cosmopolitan-with-a-grounding-in-Texas musical tastes.
Both Willie Nelson and Tony Bennett are icons.

A right purty view of the Great Basin from the eastern foothills of the Sierras
Its a right fine day for bicycling around Donner Lake
Out in BFE Nevada. Fascinating terrain, geology. In the distance, looking at clouds to the west along Sierra Nevada. Seems desolate, but if you observe, there's so much to see and think about.
It was rough going further up!
It's a right purty day for hiking in Denali National Park.
Right fine day for University of Alaska ski trails. I always feel extremely fortunate for the many miles of these.
Right fine day for thinking of the Hawaii 5 0 theme song at Pupukea Beach.
Right purty Sunday morning for 3.4 mile run/walk (more like shuffle in Sorels) in #Fairbanks #Alaskasky (Disclaimer: Chena Pump bank thermometer reads about 7F colder than actual under these conditions).
#Fairbanks #Alaskasky can be a right purty place to live when it's 40 below zero. This was taken at 13:30.
I tell you what, these -35F to -40F days just around the solstice are some of my favorite times of the year for walks. These were taken at 2:15pm, half an hour before sunset (after 11 am sunrise), in #Fairbanks #Alaskasky There's a magic in it all.
Missing my canine soulmate, Kenai, or "Keeny Bopper," gone now for over two years, but continues to inspire my life. This was at Chena Lake in May 2017.
Wow, I've watched a lot of geology documentaries, but this one has some wonderful animations on the evolution of the Rocky Mountains, and help to understand so much of the detail you see when you roam those parts. Highly recommend if you're interested -- youtube.com/watch?v=TGnDsZwAtRY
I'm still rooting for subzero before it starts going back up, but I'm not very optimistic.
Was just looking at one of my all-time favorite videos. Up at Eagle Summit (north of Fairbanks) in 2014 with my canine soulmate, Kenai, just doing "the life thang." #Alaskasky
It was a right fine day for trail running north of University of Alaska Fairbanks campus. Well, actually, it would have been a right finer day with some snow cover. #Alaskasky
It was a right fine autumn Sunday morning for the Chena Ridge / Chena Pump loop above the Tanana (and Chena) River in #Fairbanks #Alaskasky. On peaceful old fart Sunday mornings like this, I like to contrast with Sunday Morning Coming Down of decades ago --

Back around 1982 I remember buying at a local Great Falls, MT bookstore the definitive, seminal work on driving etiquette, "How to Drive Like a Selfish Bastard." It specifically said on this topic, "Don't use turn signals, it's nobody's business where you're going."
Maybe there's a broader and less categorised set of "basic responses" than the quartet your present? :)
