I mean why do they have so little faith in British kids that they imagine them to be brainwashed so easily. And secondly, being at a university in Europe does not bring you into contact with EU officials, so who’s doing the alleged ‘brainwashing’? None of this makes sense.

The trouble is the Iranian regime does kill its own citizens so it has no more credibility than Trump.

Yes.

I’d say the same about all our parties tbh. The Tories are useless, ditto Greens (bonkers economics), Lib Dem’s, and obvs Reform. I also think we get the politicians we deserve.

Not what I’m saying. And tbf America wasn’t as chaotic at that time. Also, I don’t see where alternative leadership might come from sadly.

Unless you go from bad to worse as the Tories did with Cameron-May-Johnson-Truss. And it reflects poorly on the country just as we need strong leadership in the face of Middle East and Ukraine conflicts.

That’s amazing. Great news.

I think I have taken a similar path. Gordon Brown was right at the time, but since Cameron/Osborne, Brexit, Johnson and Truss, I completely agree. And as for the prospect of Reform 😬😳

Explains why everyone is so angry and dissatisfied- they’re being told to be.

I’m not convinced- if it was that easy I am sure the government would love to. I suspect they fear a market reaction like Truss got.

But I think that’s how the media is treating our local elections- and explains why our local services are so poor. We forget to elect people to sort out the local stuff which ironically makes us angrier because poor local services impact us way more than national issues.

The Greens seem to have lost their way and forgotten their core values just when the world needs them to fight for our environment.

So here in NI we have a massive budget issue- basically our health service is on its knees and all our spare funding goes on health and education. There’s literally no money for ‘massive investment’. And this is why I am asking where is the funding going to come from?

Northern Ireland Water issues 'devastating' for houses in rural areas In parts of Northern Ireland new houses cannot be built and businesses are unable to expand due to the state of the water infrastructure.

Here in NI water is still publicly owned but we have same problems. It’s not a magic solution. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

The 600bn is to fully fix it. Get sewage separated from run off. But even if you don’t do that the figures are eye watering- so if taxes don’t fund it in public ownership, where does it come from? Borrowing?

This is very true and that’s where political leadership comes in to put the case.

6 days ago 1 0 0 0

Yes because it’s presented to them as cost free

I don’t argue with that. But I think it’s a hard sell to the public.

I realise Ed’s a politician but I don’t think Starmer resigning now would benefit the country. Everyone knows Starmer wouldn’t even have considered Mandleson if Trump hadn’t been elected. Trump has poisoned everything.

Of course people want these things. Now ask them how much tax they’re willing to pay for them. Because to solve our water problems alone you need to separate waste water and sewage. Cost £600bn. The public simply won’t pay. And good luck getting’the rich’ to pay.

Yes but governments need taxes to fund services so if they cut it they have to find funding elsewhere.

Same for Starmer. It appears incumbents all face the same unpopularity probably because there are no simple solutions. I do see U.K. turning more to Europe and with the right leadership this could be a real moment for Europe. But we need leaders!

I have some sympathy with politicians in that I think the world we face now is very complex and defies easy solutions. Climate change, wars and instability in much of the world is not easy.

How much support do you think the AfD has in Germany? I think the biggest threat to Europe now is if France and Germany were to elect far right governments.

I’d say 63% is an accurate representation of the country atm. I also think if a referendum were held, many who voted for Brexit would not vote at all.

It’s always ‘patriots’ that do the most damage to a country isn’t it. Cf MAGA.
