Spinning whilst telling stories has been happening for millennia. Each word, nestled in the spun fibre, worn on the body, after, like an amulet.

On the first of March in Bulgaria and other surrounding countries, Grandmother March is honoured. People wear white and red amulets made of cotton or spun wool for health.
And so on this day, which signifies the start of Spring in many Slavic Countries, I wish you much health, happiness & hope.

Trailblazing Scottish Mountaineer and Poet Nan Shepherd on the Transcendent Rewards of Walking and What Makes for an Ideal Walking Companion “The body is not made negligible, but paramount. Flesh is not annihilated but fulfilled. One is not bodiless, but essential body.”

I have done most of the writing in my life while walking – what happens later at the keyboard is just transcription.

Women Holding Things: Artist Maira Kalman’s Tender and Quirky Ode to the Weight of the World and the Barely Bearable Lightness of Being “There can never be enough time. And you can never hold on to it.”

We hold still. We hold hopes. We hold our pain and the world’s pain. We hold each other. We hold up our values and hold down our tasks. We hold on, and this might be the single most defining feature of human life. We hold on.

A written down story is akin to a photograph. It is one moment in that story’s lifetime, in the way that a photo is one moment in the person’s life. It is not the whole life. Stories belong on lips, told from hearts. Writing them down has preserved many of them, telling them makes them come alive.
