Tim was my mentor. He taught me how to tell stories with sound. He always had a clear vision, but also let me follow my own passions -- a real leader.

His departure is a huge loss for public radio listeners, for those who rely on his expertise and knowledge, and for WITF.

And: "...activism (for democracy) is different from partisanship. Partisanship is defining democracy as that which Democrats want and Republicans don’t. That would be a mistake."

Exactly. This piece is asking a lot of good questions that journalists and news orgs should be asking themselves.

After a Canadian orca pod’s decline, now ‘you can see the whales coming back’ A decades-old habitat preservation effort in British Columbia, Canada, is showing positive signs for one type of orcas that live there.

A Canadian marine reserve created 40 years ago is credited with a rare win for the ecosystem: reversing the decline of one population of Northern resident orca whales and deepening local human allegiance to the mammals. Whales #Canada #Environment

Such a good graphic. @timlambert-pa.bsky.social and I saw that pattern start during the 2020 presidential campaign and, as journalists, did all we could then & since to get facts & context out to people. But it only works if people make an effort to understand what is happening, and act accordingly.

I was deeply disappointed by the lack of nature/science/climate/enviro on many major end-of-year book lists—so I decided to make my own!

Remember tomorrow that the origins of Thanksgiving- as a truly national holiday- came from the work of Sarah Hale and Abraham Lincoln. A nation gave thanks to God as it mourned the Union dead and prayed for the defeat of the Confederacy by either changing rebel minds or bringing them to submission.
