In a time where political science insights are more important than ever for the broader public, effectively communicating these concepts beyond the ivory tower poses both challenges and opportunities. This round table aims to explore the pathways and practices involved in translating rigorous political science research into compelling narratives for public consumption. Participants will cover the process of publishing within the trade press as opposed to academic outlets, audience engagement strategies, and the potential for a broader impact that this sort of work can achieve in more publicly accessible formats.

Are you a political scientist thinking of writing a public-facing book, or at least one that speaks to a publicly salient issue? @dcinbox.bsky.social has organized a super panel for the upcoming SPSA meeting: Friday, 5-6:15 PM in Conference Room 1.

Kamala Harris has a massive lead among Black voters. It may not be enough Harris has reversed most of Trump's gains among Black Americans but may be "falling short" of what she needs to win key states.

I got some fire quotes off in this one!

What Gov. Greg Abbott and AG Ken Paxton’s endorsement wars could mean for Texas’ GOP primaries The big GOP endorsements are coming from Gov. Greg Abbott and Attorney General Ken Paxton. But both Republicans seem to be backing different candidates in the same districts.

Y’all, I was talking about endorsements!

Ranked choice voting is being touted as a cure-all for U.S. deep partisan divides In ranked choice voting, a voter picks a favorite candidate, a second favorite and so on β€” instead of just one candidate. Voting reform is gaining popularity amid fears about threats to democracy.

β€œIn reality, the only accountability mechanism is that we agree to turn out and that we agree to chime in, right? And so if we choose, when we're talking about primaries, 15, 12% turnout, we are not keeping our end of the bargain.”

I loved teaching Intro to AFAM this semester. I asked these 2Qs and the answers were great! I got a little emotional on their answers to Q1:
1. What is one thing you learned from this course that will stick with you?
2. Who is your top Artist on Spotify/Apple Music in 2023?

Amid Bridgeport election debacle, voter suppression fears emerge An alleged incident of ballot fraud in Bridgeport has left some residents fatigued. Others worry the response could curtail voting access.

"Andrea Benjamin, a professor at the University of Oklahoma who studies race, politics, local elections and voting behavior, said it’s possible that with a re-do of the primary looming, voters in Bridgeport are experiencing fatigue."

How to Thrive in Hostile Partisan Terrain Democrat Andy Beshear wins re-election in a state that otherwise elects only Republicans to statewide office, the particular challenges facing Black women mayors and other election fallout.

β€œIt’s the intersection of those stereotypes,” says Andrea Benjamin, an expert on urban politics at the University of Oklahoma. β€œBecause it’s a Black woman, you think they’re aggressive or angry all the time. They can’t win.”
