being crepuscular
the 20th century era of the postcolonial nation-state movement is dead, transformed to neocolonies led by bourgeois patriarchs who threw out anticolonial liberation to try & get a seat at the table w/ the White Man and join the fraternity in the brotherhood of nations, women & lgbtq people be damned
if I were trying to make a post in r/ocdrecovery to cause maximum disruption to everyone reading, it would be pretty much that lol
frankly the strongest indicators of a broad anti-feminist culture being our norm beside the restrictions on reproductive rights, the transmisogynistic lawfare, & the anti-metoo stuff is the endless parade of content that tells women that the heterosexual household & family is their safest place
Theory and Society is one of DOZENS of journals that have had their editorial boards gutted by publishers. The new boards tend right. That's not really deliberate - that's just who wants to be on the board of the hollowed-out cuckoo child of a once-prestigious journal
editorial boards getting stuffed with far-right grifters is one of many grim natural consequences of the rise of gold open-access driving the interests of publishers and academics in opposite directions
Just noticed that the zombie sociology journal Theory & Society has Colin Wright on its editorial board.
Disgraceful. Wright has a PhD in spider biology, did one postdoc, and quit academia to become an anti-trans/anti-woke podcaster. He has absolutely no relevant qualifications.
Easiest job in history must have been being a white guy with a record deal in 1920. You could just sing "hinkey dinky donkey, everybody's plonky" and they'd give you a million dollars
So, uh, I have some news.
Cass, who the Starmer government insist on prioritising over the entire medical field of trans medicine, keeps insisting that a trans inclusive ban on conversion therapy would ban the therapy she favours.
It's not going to happen under Starmer.
the indian state's attempt to codify hijra as the only singular legally legitimate enclosure of noncisness and so illegalize both diverse modes of transness within and outside of it is a product of a colonial "third gender" gaze on transfemininity inscribed through the rhetoric of postcolonialism
guess what film ilya and i just co-watched
saw this and was like, damn this reminds me of my friend Eli before I looked at the username and pfp
student loan company overseas office believe the fact that I don't earn much from my zero hours contact job lifting things at an outdoor cinema challenge
In my opinion, Labour are failing to deliver their promised ban on conversion therapy because any legally robust definition of it would show that the NHS are doing it to trans people, and implicate this government in the practice. 4/5
hmm why not simply read and share my essay about how the construction of "healthy" homosexual masculinity sustained consistent malicious conversion efforts against trans youth instead of all those other essays where gay guys do that

Wish people would stop conflating 'social transition' with hair cuts. The government are not policing hair styles. This take risks dismissing & minimising what is happening to trans kids.
What they are policing & denying is the social recognition & affirmation that trans kids desperately need.
Incredibly happy to see a video essay this comprehensive and accessible about the past and present of conversion therapy in the UK (and a real high point for me to have my work cited in something like this!)
It's really disturbing how in the mid 2010s there were several regularly active trans journalists in the British mainstream press and presently there's like maybe 2 who occasionally get some token comment somewhere when someone's given us a kicking.
People in sci-fi novels are always naming their exploratory vessels shit like ICARUS and IXION and while I am not superstitious, I would maybe go with the USS GOT-THERE-SAFELY.
draft schools guidance uses the cass review phrase 'living in stealth' - did we ever find an origin of this that wasn't just a portmanteau of 'stealth' and 'living in sin'?
followed up with the really nasty: 'a decision relating to social transition may not be the same as a child’s wishes.'
the draft schools guidance leaves a lot of space for the ROGD/social contagion model. Thinking especially of this line: "the first step when considering a child’s request for support with social transition will be to consider what is in the best interests of the child and other children'
If reason worked against fascism, it would be pretty useful that early modern anti-wetnurse tracts use all the same arguments, and many of the same smears
medieval and early modern recipe books abound with references to almond milk (and other non-dairy milks!)
I've said this before, but it makes me insane that in an age of human civilization when the ultra-rich have hoarded over half of all wealth, the go-to visual shorthand for depictions of gluttony is still "fat"
Don’t ever let people forget this.
genderfluid-druid hurr hurr I'm a human body hurr hurr I'm gonna solve all my problems using mucus "i require more fluids" well what did you do with the fluids I already gave you. hmm? did you make more mucus with them? you made more mucus with them.
It's mucus all the way down.
