And now we've got the first issue of a brand-new magazine, OTHERSIDE, @othersidespec.bsky.social, a quarterly literary magazine that publishes speculative fiction, poetry, nonfiction, and art by 2SLGBTQIA+ writers and artists. Looks amazing: weightlessbooks.com/category/for...

a lot of my work is about siblings lol
One of my favorite things I wrote is a poem called "my sister, a chimaera". lowkey want to write a story on that
YESS I am glad.
"The Homeowner's Bride" is now free to read in Otherside's first issue!
The protagonist is a haunted house (that's down to fuck). 🏚
Both horror and a love story, it's one of the strangest, riskiest, most heartfelt things I've ever written.

@nadiaradovich.bsky.social's "Curriculum for Girls Who Will Survive" has Nadia's signature flare for structurally inventive and sharply effective. What an ending!

I'm a hard sell on retellings but I immediately loved Abigail Eliza's "Your First Days Back in the Court of Arthur". Its such an efficient story that strikes at the heart of hurt

@seoungkim.bsky.social "Situationship" is brief and poignant love story in space. emotionally devastating

@esichr.bsky.social's "This is Not Your Extinction Event" is the best kind of multiverse love story.

@sarahpauling.bsky.social's Mother Mansrot in the Glass Mountain is eerie, unexpected, and sharp. the best kind of dreamlogic fairytale

Vitrification by @callmeishmael.bsky.social is all the queer rage. Its so powerfully resonant.

If you've ever felt the feminine urge to fuck a house, I urge you to read @ayidashonibar.bsky.social "The Homeowner's Bride" immediately. Its angry, queer, and perfect.

@tanadrin.bsky.social's The Claywife is bittersweet, and utterly original. It almost made me cry.
othersidespec.com/pieces/the-c...
@srinivassimo.bsky.social's The Vetala of Cystal Vellam Inlet is one of the very first stories I read and was immediately in love. Such assured storytelling. Its hard to do humor well in short fiction but Simo is a master.

I understand not wanting to read/engage with the prior research/analysis you're building on in your PhD about as much as I understand people using LLM extruders to "write" novels
Nobody is in academia, or publishing, for the money or glory
If you hate reading: DO SOMETHING ELSE WITH YOUR LIFE
too much work lol. i do not want to cite sources 😅
maybe I will abandon this attempt to write historical fiction and go back to fantasy...
woohoo, this looks INCREDIBLE!
Devouring Fortune book cover. Features a woman with folded arms on the cover. Her arms are crossed. She has straight black hair and her skin is light brown. She has a haunted expression. She is dressed in a white priestess outfit with wrapped bandages up her arms. Behind her lurks a monstrous skeleton whispering in her ear. They are surrounded by red flowers.
I'm happy to say today is the day for the book cover reveal of DEVOURING FORTUNE! @jeleynai.bsky.social did an incredible job on the illustration, I'm in awe.

I really like Tamsyn Muir's work in general, very distinct voice. Suzan Palumbo's collection, The Skin Thief, has really good stories with very precise linework. Alix E Harrow's entire body of work is such a marvel of prose
I've gotten into a lot of different media recently, and it has only reinforced my adoration for words? I'm more interested in reading stories that take full advantage of the medium, from people who look at our only tool (prose) and see it as a strength, not a limitation
Yes! I think of this often, even on the line level?
Dan Simmons, noted racist, has died. He wrote Hyperion, which contained a good short story and then a lot of other words, which many of us read anyway because it was the Nineties and Waldenbooks had a limited science fiction section.
Amazing recs and the best thing to wake up to. What wonderful company to be in, especially with my long time friend and CP @thelialao.bsky.social
