Considering how cookie cutter house layouts can be, I don’t see how a rules-based algorithm couldn’t do an okay, uninspiring Airbnb-genetic job for most but not all cases. Then for bonus feed it some guidelines from Feng Shuai.

The bigger issue is that contemporary, capitalist life is anti-family and anti-children, it’s all about consumption and career as a “lifestyle”. Having kids today hurts your career, can be isolating, there is less and less of a village to help you.

Indeed. I was there when it was just about techno-optimism. People were building things they wanted, and it just happened to make them money. They were just nerdy (and naive) tinkerers. That generation is all gone now

Because it was all very highly individualist, achievement oriented activities? I know people who took ayahuasca to figure out their startup’s branding. And then people who got sober so they can “crush it” at work more, not to be better people.

It’s basically a coup, if it would be any other country headlines should read “South African Oligarch seizes control of the ministry of finance, opposition parties in disarray”

Definitely looks well thought out and surprisingly not pricey. I have been curious about keyboards that have either rough stone or fabric texture. No idea if it’s work, just wondering about completely different textures.

ASEAN region represents over 600 million people. It includes several countries with among the highest climate risks, which highlights that the work ASEAN-CRN does on climate smart agriculture is both urgent and critical.

Last week, I had a delightful chance to speak at the ASEAN Climate Resilience Network ASEAN-CRN and support the master class workshop, which brought together governments and organisations from all over SEA to address agrifood systems and climate resilience.

Good quote. Corporate power in Mussolini’s contest is closer in meaning to labour groups, rather than companies or owners of production/capital

Looking forward to the response from the climate scientific community on this, esp. interesting as this is coming from an actutary.

From the report:
"impacts are materialising at lower temp. than estimated. The severity and frequency of extreme events are unprecedented and beyond model projections."

"Paris Agreement goals were not informed by realistic risk assessment, implicitly accept high risk of crossing tipping points"

Planetary Solvency – finding our balance with nature | Institute and Faculty of Actuaries Current climate policies risk catastrophic societal and economic impacts.

If it takes 20 years of above 1.5C temperatures to confirm we've technically breached 1.5C, I'm not sure about the purpose of the 'breached' definition from a policy perspective.

Also, IFoA (UK Actuaries) comes swinging, critical of Paris Agreement and IPCC: actuaries.org.uk/planetary-so...

I created a webpage that runs, not on a giant data center, but on my 2019 Redmi Note. Now, imagine if we could own much more of our digital lives?

Consider this webpage a small, symbolic start: website-on-android-phone.thekancil.org/this-webpage...

If we're going to have an honours system that is open to the whole community - in which we thank people, collectively, for service to the public - we can't keep demanding that they pass a loyalty test to a bygone empire.

At least give a choice between "Empire" & "Excellence". It's such an easy fix.

Hello @gracelp.bsky.social, @samanthaculp.bsky.social, @mad-science-guy.bsky.social, here's the link to the PDF by the LtG author. I can't reply to the original thread 😔 China is mentioned just twice. I remember this piece, along w/ a few others, bummed out our entire class.

Re: election cycles: At my foresight grad program, we read an opinion piece from one of the Limits to Growth authors. He felt only China - as a major power not beholden to election cycles - would be able push the world to successful climate adaptation/mitigation. I think (sadly) about that a lot

Upgraded and now testing my Meshtastic devices. It’s rough, but hope to see more and more decentralised communications.

#SmallWinsBrag: This morning, I made freshly-made grounded, pounded masala hot chocolate and shakshuka for my 4 year old daughter's breakfast. And, somehow we made it to the school bus on time, with her clothed with a backpack full of snacks.

Kitchen is a total disaster though.

Dune Part 2: Spectacular visuals and score, gutted too much of the original book, some ridiculous casting decisions

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes: Thoughtfully done, drawn-out and doesn't surface anything new

Inside Out 2: Watched the first 20-30 minutes before dying of vicarious embarrassment
