The additional strain on top of the social care problem is caused by #COVID. COVID is causing a continuous cycle of health problems and immune problems leaving many open to more infections. We urgently need #CleanAir & masks in healthcare. It’s unsurprising as we are still in an official Pandemic. 🧵
Please share for anyone who might not find Christmas an easy time of year

Travelling up to Leeds this morning to meet up with my old NHS England team, you never forget a fabulous team 🥰
I posted our impact report recently, highlighting the incredible work our teams do to support children with terminal illness & their families. Please support our Xmas fundraising campaign, it’s match-funded by the Big Give, so all donations have double the impact! 🌈

Such an important question, we also key young people done when they transition to adult services & often they just end up with nothing as there is no capacity within current services. We have a health service that knowingly puts people at risk

Money Saving Expert Martin Lewis tells #Newsnight the situation facing pensioners who’ve lost the winter fuel payment and cost of living payment is "devastating", with the energy price cap also rising in January.
Alas neither Labour UK nor Wes Streeting on here yet, but could we all agree that however MPs vote on AD next week, this is a huge opportunity for the government to announce - finally, after decades of successive governments failing dying people - proper NHS funding of palliative care?
Wherever you stand on assisted dying, I’d urge you to read this superb, thoughtful, evidence-based piece from @iandunt.bsky.social.
A couple of points to add, from my perspective as an atheist palliative care doctor who opposes legal change at this time 🧵 open.substack.com/pub/iandunt/...
Love this, not sure who the creator is to credit but I think it is worth sharing 🥰

This week the Nuffield Council on Bioethics published two nationally representative surveys exploring public opinion on assisted dying / suicide.
www.nuffieldbioethics.org/publication/...
Some interesting findings: 🧵
81% of the public agree (54% strongly agree) that people at the end of life should have continuity of care with their Gp and a social care plan that meets their needs
And 80% agree (52% strongly agree) that the government should commit more support and guidance for home carers
These new surveys show that the public care more, and more strongly, about fixing palliative care, social care and home care than they do about assisted dying / assisted suicide. This is important.
Keen to start a discussion, why, when children’s palliative is commissioned by an “integrated” care board, is the social care element left out? Often this is packaged as LA short breaks, but to provide holistic support to families children’s palliative social care has to be integral to their support
Visited our amazing family support @rainbowtrustcc.bsky.social team in Manchester last week, love how they’ve set up their bereavement cupboard. Thoughtful activities to take out to support children experiencing loss #childrenspalliativesocialcare 🌈
NEW: Hundreds of children are being deprived of their liberty - and placed in illegal/unregulated care.
AirBnBs, security guards, restraints - and often costing the state £1m+
