The ending *really* undoes a lot of what propelled the film. For example, what was Marty’s relationship like with his daughter? Where is she, and where are his grandchildren, given the success of this film and story about their grandfather’s early life?

It’s not a bad film (that’s not an endorsement it’s just true). Saying it’s not bad doesn’t mean it doesn’t have issues. Calling it bad would be too easy.

We need to be better about saying that things are good, skillfully made, well-performed, and *still* have issues.

The ending makes the film wayyyyy more contrived.

The thing w/ MARTY SUPREME is that it portends the increase of projects that will express a particular type of longing for rote performances of masculinity positioned as cutting edge when they’re really meh.
