Just out in Science Advances with @topotoolbox.bsky.social:
Submarine canyons preferentially form where the seafloor is steepest—not where rivers bring much sediment. Our global study reveals what controls canyon distribution and the world’s oceans.

🚨New paper alert 🚨 Ever wondered how sand extraction may be altering the bed of sandy rivers? How these changes influence flow and sediment transport? Well wonder no more!

Last Wednesday the Birchgletscher in the Swiss Alps collapsed, devastating large parts of the village #Blatten and blocking the Lonza river which created a small lake.
Thanks to aerial images shared by #swisstopo, I was able to create a 3D model of the area.

I'm reposting this again, because we are still offering a 2-year postdoc position at @climatecerege.bsky.social and we are looking for applicants!
🚨🌍 How do #mountains shape the #carboncycle? How does #mountainbuilding processes balance out? 🤔 @aaronbufe.bsky.social explores the surprising ways mountain building can act as both a carbon sink and a source. 🏔️🌿🔥 (1/3)
PhD position: Looking for a motivated PhD student to join us in Munich @lmumuenchen.bsky.social to study weathering of sediments across the Madeira floodplain within the ERC-funded project Floodplain Weathering (FloW).

I'm hiring, two fully funded PhD positions! Come work in Umeå in Arctic Sweden, a leading place for high-latitude ecosystem ecology and carbon biogeochemistry
Really excited to share that as of January I will be joining @es-ucl.bsky.social as a Lecturer! Looking forward to getting stuck in and being a part of an exciting and growing cluster in #surfaceprocesses and #geochemistry expertise! 🗻🧪🧑🔬🏞️
Congratulations! Sounds like a very cool project.
Seismicity of the global mid-ocean ridge system. Spilhaus projection map by J. Chen
Very grateful to have been awarded an #ERCCoG grant! The SeaSALT project aims at understanding how individual diking and fault slip events compete to accommodate extension at mid-ocean ridges… and end up shaping 2/3 of our planet’s surface. Stay tuned for future PhD/postdoc opportunities at ENS!
Accepting applications for a postdoc position in computational ocean biogeochemistry in my group at U. Virginia. Focus is primarily on the response of coastal and marine ecosystems to natural variability, climate change, and direct human perturbations
