I joined the BBC in the late seventies and worked alongside radio and TV journalists for over 40 years. Throughout I was uneasy with the reliance of journos on stories gleaned from national papers and willingness to repeat claims verbatim. Papers have declined so has the quality of BBC journalism.

The most telling line in this is: "Farage withdrew his services from the platform on Thursday" (i.e. once what he had been doing was revealed).

Good to see Sadiq Khan joining Wes Streeting and David Lammy in finally catching up with the Lib Dems on the need for a UK–EU customs union.
We have led the way, won the vote in Parliament and will now fight to make sure Downing Street wakes up to the damage done by Brexit too.

Finland’s President Alexander Stubb:
"Brexit was a colossal mistake and the UK should rejoin the European Union"
Brexit is worse than "shooting yourself in the foot...it's like amputating your leg without medical reason for doing it.”

🔥 Rachel Reeves admits what many businesses have been saying for years:
Brexit damaged trade, raised costs and made life harder: especially for smaller firms.
Closer alignment with the European Union isn’t ideology.
It’s economic reality.
"Brexit meant Brexit, but 10 years is a long time in politics and the geopolitical landscape has changed beyond recognition. It is time for the UK Government to recognise that the EU is its closest ally and its strongest partner. Progress has been too slow. The EU–UK reset must now be supercharged.”
Reform fury as someone else wins by Our By-election Editor Tim Shipsink The losing candidate in the Gorton and Denton by-election, Matt Goodwhinge, has demanded an immediate re-run of the election on the grounds that he lost comprehensively to someone else. "It's totally unfair and rigged," said Goodwhinge. "I shouldn't be required to sit there and suck it up, just because I lost." Mr Goodwhine continued, *I can't believe that all those voters I demonised failed to back me. Especially after I was endorsed by Tommy Robinson and ten million Russian bots on X. "We have clear evidence of family voting, where people voted in order for me to stop deporting their families." Mr Badloser concluded. "I'm the victim of colour prejudice. They didn't vote for me simply because I'm not green." Reform leader Mr Farage, speaking from a sun lounger on a rock near the Chagos Islands said, "It's a tragedy that the people of Manchester won't see Matt in Westminster, but my constituents don't see me in Clacton either." Beautiful from Private Eye on the massive toddler-tantrum that Matt Goodwin and Reform are having, because they got whooped in Gorton and Denton.
This scar looks very much like the implant scar on the necks of the villainous victims in the Kingsman movie… maybe his head will explode in an equally colourful way?
Lib Dem Leader Ed Davey:
"Tax exiles like Isabel Oakeshott and washed up old footballers who mock ordinary people who stay in the UK and pay our taxes... As we protect them, it's only right for tax exiles to start paying taxes to fund our armed forces, just like the rest of us".
Non British citizens AREN’T allowed to vote for MPs UNLESS they are

📌 a citizen of the Republic of Ireland
So which does he want to disqualify ? All of them?
And will he stop scavenging for $$$$$ foreign to support his party?
Radio4 #Today is not what it was.
“So deep is it embedded in the public life of the nation that the Royal Navy submarines that hold the UK’s nuclear deterrent are advised to listen out for the Today programme as one of the official measures to prove the UK still exists”

The Gorton and Denton by-election shows people are bitterly disappointed with Labour but horrified by the rise of Reform.
In many parts of the country, it's the Liberal Democrats who can stop Reform.
