Agreed. When something becomes ubiquitous, explanatory branding will seem cringe - but appreciating the role branding plays in MAKING a technology ubiquitious is important.
Even when (or maybe especially when) it was terrible: 4G, "Cloud", even "Information Superhighway" π΄, etc
It's scaffolding

Yes, it's true! @brittanyellich.com crushed it in shipping a v0.1 version of a new community hub at atmosphere.community
Features: @standard.site aggregation powered by @opensocial.community, group calendar, regional communities etc etc etc
Screenshot of Eurosky fundraising page showing amount raised: β¬5,226 out of a β¬100,000 target and number of supporters (282).
Weβre fundraising to build everything we need to operate without Bluesky. Our β¬100,000 target will accelerate our goal of building a European app backend (Appview) and a microblogging app.
Since last night over 282 of you contributed more than β¬5,000.
Let's do this!

Wow, @sifa.id is absolutely LIT
It's a new take on LinkedIn that already is waaaay easier to set up IMO. For instance: auto import of papers from ORCiD!
So so useful, simple, and you own your data. Atproto is the future π₯
Feature request: status.status.bsky.app π
For purely pedagogical reasons, I think I'm going to start referring to LLM interactions as "talking with the ancestors"
A list of publications on Sifa showing papers that I've participated in.
One of @sifa.id's awesome features is that if you give it your ORCID and add your Sifa profile to your ORCID page (in the "Websites" section) to verify it's really you, it automatically lists all the publications that ORCID knows about it!
Switched to @eurosky.social today - all good so far π
π this community
Had many 1-1s with ppl offering their advice/ideas/support on how to further evolve @sifa.id: @bumblefudge.com @ricardo.bsky.social @dave.self.surf @andyschwab.link @trysound.io @exosphere.site @jimray.locket.computer @sherif.eurosky.social @renderg.host
Thank you all so much! π
You can now heart @bsky.app posts, star @tangled.org, like @whtwnd.com entries and vote for @frontpage.fyi links right from the Sifa activity feed!
Have you written at all about those better options? Interested to hear how you're thinking about the challenge (I agree about deplatforming not being the answer; it becomes a zero-sum contest of who has the authority to deplatform, and eventually -inevitably - it isn't you or your community)
I think it's spelled @sifa.id π π
I know blockchain stuff doesn't fly here... but this really about something broader
Austin Campbell is extremely grounded and uses a specific situation to illuminate a category of broken thinking. The lessons apply to many well-meaning communities looking to use tech to solve human problems.
@leaflet.pub, any chance I could have my @at.fund records appear on my profile or publications in Leaflet? π
β¬οΈ all this is still true *and* now you can pay us btw :) π
Leaflet Pro gets you publication analytics right now, and more soon (like newsletter mode!) β also helps us keep 99% of all Leaflet's great features free for everyone β¨
Just started experimenting with @offprint.app myself - atproto based, with newsletter / email support + a (surprisingly) beautiful UI π
I built ionosphere.tv as a fun evening side-project / entry into @iame.li's awesome VOD JAM project.
What it's evolved into is honestly much better than YouTube for this purpose; it's become situated sensemaking and archiving software for conferences and video archives.

Writing about attested.network, an open spec for decentralized proof of payments on ATProtocol. It builds on what we learned making atprotofans.com. Draft is up and feedback is welcome.
i was annoyed that this isn't explained how i want in the docs so i wrote my own mini-guide to publishing lexicons:
I built most of this with my consumer-facing blog posts a few months ago but based on recent discourse I thought I'd make a few changes and share. Probably too much info for a page like this, and it's definitely opinionated. Everything is a WIP - including iconography. Would love to hear thoughts!
Oh, this really helps clarify for me - let me do some thinking and see what's possible! FWIW, a key constraint I'm wrestling with is radical simplicity: I think the root challenge for funding is actually relationship clarity, so figuring out how to make that extremely intuitive to model is key π
We've set up our at.fund profile! Support ATproto projects you love, it helps keep the community going. π―
www.at.fund/colibri.social
So the same funding challenges/opportunities at Atmosphere were discussed at @protocolsforpublishers.com just weeks prior
I think the easier we can make it for audiences to identify, verify, and fund the projects & outlets they care about, the better... and atproto feels like the ideal foundation
my ai residency at propel is in its final months. we've been building tech for people on SNAP and medicaid, and i have a few projects in flight + a request for help from anyone who works in benefits

I just saw this one for @at.fund and I think it's a great integration to have on Bluesky profiles.
Great call-out - it's awesome to see what @atprotofans.com is doing π
@at.fund is dedicated to universal discovery and social signaling only: you can use any platform for payment rails
That said, would be very interested in maximizing interop with @atprotofans.com as an AT-native rails solution π
Even better: stop treating tech monopolies as if they're an immovable part of the landscape which we can only accept, ban, or regulate. We have the means to replace toxic social apps with better ones, including youth-designed and youth-governed alternatives.
In a future modalities workshop I argued for helping communities transform their fast-moving flow (chatter) into slow-moving stock (wisdom).
Minutes later @andyschwab.link showed me a demo of exactly that: bsky.app/profile/andy...
I have never experienced anything like this community
What an epically cool place to build π€―
I had already migrated to @sifa.id from LI, and then they drop this - unbelievable! Thanks for making this happen! π
Oh - and the embed "just worksβ’οΈ" too!
