A digital illustration of a mother with a sad expression is holding her young child in her arms as they embrace. Text reads, 'Don't be afraid to show your child you're feeling sad' alongside the Child Bereavement UK logo
When your partner dies, don’t be afraid to show how you're feeling. Children learn about feelings by watching the adults around them, and it’s not helpful to be told they need to be brave.

I've written it's a great way to start a lesson, part of the 'Do Now's routine but I haven't read any research to suggest that's the best or only time. Any part of the lesson & outside of the lesson. It's so powerful, It deserves more than 3-5 minutes of a 'Do Now'.
I've written 4 books about retrieval practice & there absolutely has been a lot of discussion about it so I agree with you. I also agree about isolated retrieval & making it deeper with explicit links & connections. You can retrieve something without fully understanding it & that's a problem too!
"Retrieval should be given priority over new learning. What is the point in coverage if nothing sticks? When knowledge sticks, it compounds."
Interesting blog about the 'Learning Engine' with a focus on spaced practice & retrieval practice by Lee Wheeler.

I spend a lot of time working with amazing primary schools in the UK & internationally. I took 6 months away from my classroom to spend time in primary classrooms to research this book, focusing on the theory & practical application of RP in primary. 📖🧠💡🧡

The only way teaching practice changes is through building new habits. Teachers build new habits through deliberate practice. In our professional learning, we use scaffolded tasks to help colleagues make sense of the change that is needed in their own practice. Find out more enquiries@impact.wales

What does it mean to be SEND trained?
I'm asking to try to understand the commonly understood parts, and the levels of variation.
If we are all to have SEND training, let's make sure that it is clearly defined first. With a definition based in clearly agreed upon evidence.
Professors John Hattie & Gregory Donoghue published ‘A Meta-Analysis of Ten Learning Techniques’ (2021), which replicated the findings of Dunlosky et al. (2013). Conclusion stated:
“The most effective techniques are Distributed Practice & Practice Testing.”

World Book Day was so special for me.
I went to two local primary schools & a nursery in Solihull to read my children's stories to little listeners. It was great to hear the children laugh & see them listening so attentively. ❤️ 📚
“High standards and inclusion are two sides of the same coin.”
After reading the white paper carefully and discussing it during a SENCo forum this week, I’ve written on the shift in language, and what some of this might mean for schools in practice.

I'm using LinkedIn a lot more, but I can understand why that platform isn't for everyone. There's so many platforms now, I need to think about which ones I find most useful. I do agree with you about Bluesky! 👏
