Modal Filters:

A "modal filter" is the highest ROI urban design tool on earth. By placing a physical barrier that lets bikes pass but blocks cars, you instantly stop drivers from using neighborhoods as high-speed shortcuts.

If Mamdani and Obama singing The Wheels On The Bus with a group of tiny kids doesn't spark some sort of joy in you, I've got nothing for you.

Well if we lose tonight, and it looks like we will, at least our kit was clean and it didn’t look like we’d spent the afternoon decorating #liverpool #LIVPSG

Is this down to the silo-ing of transport schemes? We get this often: "It's a car scheme, not a cycle scheme." I cannot make out what we can do to bust this mentality. tfl.gov.uk/travel-infor...

Gallows Corner Flyover Refurbishment We’re pleased to be undertaking the detailed design for the refurbishment and superstructure reconstruction of the Gallows Corner Flyover.

I wouldn't be proud to be associated with this! It needs compulsory purchase to make it acceptable to all users and actually provide an alternative to driving. pellfrischmann.com/gallows-corn...

SUVs are making Britain’s potholes worse, say scientists Engineers link reduced lifespan of roads to shift to heavier cars, some bought to navigate damaged surfaces

The correct way to deal with this particular negative externaility is to tax SUV ownership so that the cost of fixing the damage is born by those who cause it, rather than everyone else.

Fan on 2019 #Macintosh whirring too loudly so I did two things:
• installed Find Any File and discovered the remains of the awful MacPaw Clean My Mac. Deleted!
• turned Mac off and gently hoovered the vents in the base and back of the stand using the crevice device.

Computer works and, ah, silence!

Large twin cab pick up truck parked in a disabled bay outside a leisure centre, with a skull and bull horns mounted on the front.

Hmmm.
It also has a sticker on the back saying "Save the planet - kill people" along with some more skulls...which is nice to see on the back of a massive truck.

Stansted Airport workers to strike over 'mean' 1p pay rise A trade union says workers who assist disabled passengers are being offered an extra 1p per hour.

And in much the same vein: www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

I wonder what the company boss gets in terms of a multiple of his/her workers' pay.

Davey calls for emergency cuts to fuel duty and train fares The Liberal Democrat leader says his transport support package would ease the impacts of the war in Iran.

For businesses? Okay. For private use? Get fucked. Take that money and put it towards active travel infrastructure so we don’t need to worry as much about high fuel prices in the future.

The Prime Minister has set a bold target to get two-thirds of young people to be taking a gold standard apprenticeship or heading to university by the age of 25.

We're modernising our campuses to make that happen.

Labour is restoring pride in our colleges.

Facebook group intent on getting the new Wilmslow cycle infrastructure removed seems to be gathering pace. It will be interesting to see what (if anything) happens. Many of the problems they highlight are actually caused by drivers.

‘Normal people can feel themselves going mad.’ I think that might be me - and you - that @hugorifkind.bsky.social is writing about. Addiction to the attention ‘reward mechanisms’ of social media publishing companies is so destructive

“We appreciate that most young people are just out to have fun with their friends”

So, maybe, perhaps, the response should be to make space for young people to do just that, rather than criminalising them when they try to?

900 kids and 4 arrested, doesn’t sound like many were causing trouble.

In an age of creeping relativism, a universal moral law still exists.

Threatening to end an entire civilization of 90 million people in order to bend a nation’s conduct to your will is grossly morally wrong. It is evil. And we should say this loudly.
