Feel terrible for the NYT journalists right now frantically concocting how to both-side, the obfuscate, and bury Trump just ordering the treasury to pay him $10 billion in cash.

Whew, you could write a whole grad student dissertation on this excerpt. One issue is the use of "elite." I'm sure Mamdani's parents are doing fine, but "Manhattan elite" is a realm of billionaires, not a filmmaker and a college professor. Their wealth and power is a rounding error to Jamie Dimon.

1994 was a great growth moment for soccer, but it is just never going to be the same a visitor experience. In 4 years it will be in Portugal/Spain/Morocco and every town will feel like a soccer party in/around the game, people will be happy to come soak that in. That was never going to happen in US.

I assume enough rich white people will come to fill the stadiums, but the key economic draw is supposed to be the millions stay in US between games for weeks, or fly in without tickets to soak up the atmosphere & travel around US, but that is just not going to happen.
