Both Iran and the USA want to end the war but the sticky issue is not Hormuz per se. it’s how to get Iran to agree to terms it finds acceptable, given its upper hand, without Trump losing face.

Canadian doctors obeying a U.S. executive order that doesn’t even apply to Canada is deeply offensive to both trans people and to Canadian legal sovereignty.

I also like the faerie inflected version in Dolmenwood. Charm is as powerful as it is in Moldvay, but in order for it to trigger, the target must accept a gift from the caster. Don't eat pomegranates from Hades or gifts from the Fae.

After looking through my shelf of games and seeing how they do charms, I have to say I really like the His Majesty the Worm version that sets the target's disposition - a reaction table equivalent - to "trust." the twist is that they don't trust the caster, but a second person the caster designates.

In an OSR playstyle, anything that encourages players to talk to the enemies as a possibly risky alternative to fleeing or fighting is valuable. See also: alignment languages.

Charm person is so powerful that it outstrips every other spell in the arsenal at a worldbuilding level (if not a conceptual dungeon level). I can think of two games where it's the basis of an entire character class: Vampire the Requiem's Ventrue and DIE RPG's Dictator.

I don't mean that it would adjust the dice roll. This is magic, so it shouldn't just whiff unless the caster uses it on someone who is already at the top step: "Eager, Friendly."

A house rule for the devastatingly powerful "Charm person" spell occurred to me this weekend.

Instead of the spell making them the close personal friend of the caster, it should adjust the reaction roll by one or two steps. This makes it variable in effect based on initial hostility.

She’s referring to the Dune Encyclopedia’s depiction of events rather than the Brian Herbert - KJA series you’re thinking of.

Neither source is by Frank Herbert, but he read and liked the Dune Encyclopedia.

Canada should get ahead, admit that human-piloted warplanes are almost always stupid, and exceptions don't require modern warplanes. CF-18s are adequate for escorting and patrolling functions. Everything else can either be done by drones or, like most adventures abroad, we shouldn't be do them.

Screenshotted excerpt from linked article reading as follows:

"In public, Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. has cultivated a reputation for care and caution. The papers reveal a different side of him. At a critical moment for the country and the court, the papers show, he acted as a bulldozer in pushing to stop Mr. Obama’s plan to address the global climate crisis.

When colleagues warned the chief justice that he was proposing an unprecedented move, he was dismissive. “I recognize that the posture of this stay request is not typical,” he wrote. But he argued that the Obama plan, which aimed to regulate coal-fired plants, was “the most expensive regulation ever imposed on the power sector,” and too big, costly and consequential for the court not to act immediately."

After reading that Lilura1 blog, I tried to get baldur's gate running, but it crashed and burned, so instead I installed the enhanced ed and then I ran 5-6 different mods to un-enhance it and restore the original visuals, GUI, sounds, and cutscenes. Rolling with an Elven Fighter-Mage Multiclass.

Speaking as an outsider because I've never had an office job, I do wonder if admin etc workers could do with a bit of romanticism about their jobs. You're descended from the ziggurat scribe-priests of Ur! Your people literally invented money!

Pinterest threw this up and I love it so much; wicked cool depiction of Molly Millions. The related images section tells me that this was an illustration for an album or an audiobook or a combination of both, not quite sure.

Please slide into the comments if you happen to know who the artist is.

Proclamation of the Constitution Act, 1982

Happy anniversary to the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms!

Enacted on April 17, 1982, when Queen Elizabeth II signed the Proclamation of the Constitution Act, 1982, it helps ensure all Canadians can live free from discrimination.

I just re-found this painting, which was in a kid's bible I had growing up. I used to obssess over it, and I'm pretty sure seeing Lucifer here was the first time I thought a man was attractive? Over the years I'd think "it couldn't possibly be as horny as I remember it", but I mean come ON
