I'll be honest with you, people don't like Keir on the door but it's not over this Mandelson thing. They don't like him personally

Great news boss, this Mandelson stuff isn’t cutting through on the doorstep because they already think you’re a cunt

tiniest flash from ed like: wait i could be prime minister in three weeks, what the fuck am i doing any of this for?

i expect kief to fire him and that *could* be a trigger - i also think he'd win against rayner

You can actually see the moment Ed Miliband thinks, what's the point burning through whatever political credibility I've got left energetically defending a man who's going to be gone in a matter of weeks.

@bbc @newsnightbbc @itvnews @skynews @channel4news (+ what I find most bizarre about all the shouts for Sir Keir Starmer to resign is that of all the PM's we have had this century, he is probably the only one who actually would resign if he had done something that required it. And he would not require your baying to do it.

as much as i have worried about him really being kept as a zombie pm for a year or whatever, general feeling has returned to "post-locals".

growing sentiment that if miliband wanted it it's his.

Excellent speech from PM Keir Starmer who has clearly been let down by some members of his backroom staff.

Starmer MUST NOT resign over this - people are using the #Mandelson issue to score political points.

Stand Firm Sir Keir #IStandWithStarmer

You can see Hoyle's anger below, im stark contrast to his gentleman's agreement with Anderson earlier.

This is right. I think can’t rule out that the local elections cause a mass β€œscrew it, we just need to change” panic.

PS NOTE: Ailsa Terry and Nin Pandit

DATE 11/11/2024

You asked for advice regarding the options for filling HMA Washington. The attached note from the Cabinet Secretary sets out the two main options: either an official or a political appointment.

An official appointment gives you someone tried and tested, expert in diplomatic tradecraft and the US system. It also demonstrates confidence in our own system to the incoming Trump administration. If anything goes wrong (e.g. the leaks of UK diplomatic telegrams written by Kim Darroch leading to a strong reaction from Trump and Darroch's resignation) then it is arguably less destabilising for the Government to change an official Ambassador if this is required. But given how it may operate, an official may not be able to influence in the same way as a political appointee, although the current HMA Washington has made good inroads into the Trump team.

A political appointment will ensure a strong connection with the PM and political priorities, and your recently appointed NSA. It will enable the Ambassador to operate at a more political level and engage differently across the US system. The individual concerned will need to operate as an Ambassador for the first time while also navigating a new US administration. If anything goes wrong. you could be more exposed as the individual is more connected to you personally.

imagine reading this note on political appt peril then installing Peter Mandelson as Ambassador given his history of convicted sex-trafficker affiliation + "financial irregularities" resignations

Keir Starmer actually put this in a briefing to Labour MPs of 'useful questions to ask' today. The PM knew of Mandelson's relationship Epstein when he appointed him.

And yet thinks he can still exploit the grief of the victims. This is why he is not fit to be Prime Minister.
