The Israeli army struck civilians in the Lebanese city of Mayfadoun.
And then, the Israelis double-tapped the medics who arrived onto the scene.
And then, they triple-tapped the next wave of medics.
And then, they did it one more time for good measure.

Where much of the world relies on people, favours, and knowing someone who knows someone, Finns rely on institutions. Things work. Public services work. Hospitals work….There’s an unspoken social contract that mostly holds.

"Hormuz does not yet signal the end of this hydrocarbon dollar complex, which has always been a combustible mix of power and volatility. But it does reveal the structural changes that would be needed for a hegemonic transition."

I realize this is confusing, but the U.S.-Israeli war with Iran isn’t a domestic political story.
“We will restore peace, stability and harmony throughout the world"-Donald Trump
@katemac.bsky.social & I decided it was time for a Polycrisis podcast about the peace, stability & harmony reigning throughout the world

"Increasingly the US is not so much the gatekeeper of the world’s only energy system, but the paranoid guardian of an ailing oil order that is rapidly losing primacy. Clean energy alternatives are becoming more attractive, cheaper, and—most importantly—more reliable."
Disruptions mean countries will rush to exit US-led oil order.
Worst case scenario for oil companies (best for rest of us) is that people permanently shift...what they call “demand destruction“
Iran war will accelerate ongoing shift to solar+EVs+batteries. ie CN winner

Listen to this. There is a MATERIALworld. $200 per barrel oil, where this is heading in months of Iran's chokehold wld be an inflationary shockwave that will cause societies to boil & politicians heads to roll.
The weakest people will suffer the most. Again, just as after Ukraine. Thread below
So like is the NYT going to carry my water as long as I make a startup to nationalize the entire fossil industry to shut it down
26/ JP Morgan on how Operation Epic Fury would end:
"Resource risk will begin to outweigh increasingly marginal military gains and the conclusion to the conflict will come down to the three M’s : Munitions, Markets and Midterms."
Sorry...This ends when Iran decides it has achieved its objectives.
This is the largest oil supply shock in history in mb/d
The enemy gets a vote. Iran is now delivering pain to Trump via multiple paths
(1) Gulf Kings
(2) Financial meltdown
(3) AI tech oligarchs
(4) Fuel, fertilizer, food disruptions

The #Bettrification Curve is steepening.
The global EV fleet has grown from ~100,000 vehicles in 2015 to 80 million in 2025.
What looked like slow adoption a decade ago is now entering the exponential phase of the S-curve.
The energy transition doesn’t move linearly — it tips.
#EV -> #NEV
Threading some stuff about oil & oil markets, just basic but hope it helps:
1/ oil markets are what you call “finely balanced”. Supply is usually very very close to demand/consumption. Demand is hard to shift *quickly* in response to supply hiccups.
So even small supply changes = big price effects
END/ 2 wars in 4 years. This war will accelerate Solar +Batteries + EVs as real Energy Security
"rest of the world will learn an important lesson from China. Build out your renewables so you aren't as dependent on imported fossil fuels & the whims of idiots"
Be like Spain.

Smart countries will "accelerate their transition to renewable energy and energy efficiency options that are more stable and less vulnerable to geopolitical risk" and reduce carbon pollution. Energy security and climate action go hand in hand.

"We knew the story of the international rules-based order was partially false, that the strongest would exempt themselves when convenient, that trade rules were enforced asymmetrically,& we knew that international law applied with varied rigor, depending on the identity of the accused or the victim"
careful what you wish for.
When King Croseus sought the delphic oracle's guidance about a possible war with Persia, she said that he would cause the fall of a great empire....
overall, a hard rule against starting wars produces a world preferable to a world in which that rule is not respected. It will always be tempting for a stronger nation to use war against a weaker nation that displeases it in some way. It will always be the case that a nation that starts a war believes that its reasons this time are sound. What we have learned, in the most destructive possible ways, is that we are all better off with a hard and fast rule against making exceptions to the rule. Opening the door to things like “preemptive wars” to head off some form of (real or concocted) threat has the same effect as saying it is okay to shoot someone if they make you nervous. It causes a lot of people to get shot unnecessarily.

I regret to inform you that “1979” by Smashing Pumpkins was released in 1996, which is now 30 years ago. Meaning a similar song released in 2026 would be called “2009”
A 60% jump in EU LNG imports from the U.S. in 2025 managed to drive up greenhouse gas emissions on both sides of the Atlantic - in the EU from the burning of the gas, and in the U.S. by prompting a shift to coal-fired generation as prices rose.
"There's also this everyday feeling of solidarity, because everyone is walking around with whistles. If you hear a whistle, suddenly people start swarming toward you. I’ve never felt so backed up. It feels like we’re all on a giant team together as a city. It’s incredible."
someone in a nail polish subreddit created a shade that matches the one in this photo and is selling it on etsy so she can afford to buy her boyfriend a bulletproof vest to wear while doing ICE watch at home depot. we live in hell but we are going to fucking win.
Useless, weak, pathetic centrist Democrats:
People are persuadable. Public opinion can shift.
In one week, a small majority has now turned against ICE.
Imagine if you actually messaged accordingly, led by example, and stood up for justice?
That number would shoot to 60% by the end of next week.
REMINDER: RECORD EVERYTHING ICE DOES.
RECORD EVERYTHING ANY GOVERNMENT ENFORCEMENT AGENCY DOES.
RECORD. RECORD. RECORD. RECORD. RECORD. RECORD. RECORD. RECORD. RECORD. RECORD. RECORD. RECORD. RECORD. RECORD. RECORD. RECORD. RECORD. RECORD.
