In addition to this being a horrible and tragic development, the thing is none of us here knows what this means

Our community has been attacked, will there now be an escalation?

We are preparing for the worst, but Ypsi is a lot smaller than the Twin Cities and I wish I felt more ready

Beloveds, please remember: even when the world is on fire, your garden hose of compassion and care DOES make a difference, however so humble

Try to stay hydrated. Take the meds and do the things that help you. Eat a food. Try to get outside for about 5 minutes if you can

You are NOT failing

Graphic from The Sick Times sharing the latest COVID-19 trends for January 6, 2026. The graphic presents trends for three metrics: WastewaterSCAN category for SARS-CoV-2, which is "high" (represented with a red color) and reports a significant increase (represented with an up arrow); CDC wastewater viral activity level for SARS-Cov-2, which is "moderate*" (orange) and reports a slight increase (diagonal up arrow), and CDC COVID-19 test positivity, which is moderate (darker yellow) and stable (side to side arrow). Text below these metrics reads: "* CDC wastewater viral activity levels are calculated based on measurements in the last two years only. They do not account for the lower spread that could be possible with more widespread precautions."

COVID-19 levels are increasing across most of the U.S. as of late December. But flu is overshadowing COVID-19 in healthcare system impacts and headlines.

For both viruses, similar precautions (like high-quality masks and improving air quality) work to reduce your risk of infection. bit.ly/3LhxKd2

2025: year of green
2026:

year of trees! 🌲🌳

this year i will:
- study trees
- go tree-ing (like birding, but for trees)
- plant trees
- draw trees
- make choices that protect trees
- seek out tree themed items when making necessary (and unnecessary) purchases

It would have been hard to leave what I've built here. Both the career but also especially the community. I feel supported and valued here. But I also need change, so I will be enrolling in a piano pedagogy class in the fall as a prof dev student. Maybe that's the change I need

Didn't get into the grad program, wasn't even offered an interview. Taking it as a sign that for some reason or another, I'm meant to stay here (for now).
Honestly, my career IS just starting to take off, & I'm blessed to make a living as a freelance music - I've even just landed another gig!
