If you're tired of seeing vent posts about this, don't worry: I'm tired of writing them.
Someday I'll finally be over this slow-mo medical crisis that makes me wish for a second chest surgery instead, but apparently that's not coming any time soon.
I'm so fucking sick of this.

I'm glad "developing a knot in the side of my fucking neck" is a known possibility with cluster headaches, otherwise I might almost be bothered by my neurologist ghosting me partway through asking him for guidance.
Yes!!! Have you played any of the other games made by Mizuguchi? He has a long history of dazzling games that really put audio front and center: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tetsuya...
They finally released a new Lumines game (one of my absolute favs), and I'm extremely eager to finally try it someday.
Powerless to resist the pile of clementines in my fridge, even though they make my cluster headaches much worse.
Citrus betrays me once more. ๐ญ
Joke's on you, medical supplier trying to avoid my calls by picking up and then immediately placing me on an indefinite hold: the old *67 trick still prevents you from seeing my phone number.
An excerpt from the Wikipedia page for cluster headaches: "Cluster headaches are unique in their periodicity and regularity: the headaches occur at around the same hour every day during a cluster period, which typically lasts 8โ10 weeks a year. Between cluster periods are pain-free intervals without headaches, which last a little less than one year, but some patients can have chronic cluster headaches without remission periods. The disease is considered among the most painful conditions known to medical science."
Fun diagnosis today: cluster headaches, despite the name, are apparently much worse than migraines!
Wikipedia isn't exactly pulling punches with that final sentence there, sheesh.

Migraine update.
Might even make it a full month at this rate.
(Oh also, Funny Girl made me fall in love with Streisand.)
Cabaret is quite good!
If you're into video essays, Lindsay Ellis also has some excellent ones on the topic. This one on Cats talks a lot about how what works for a stage musical often doesn't work for a film (and vice versa): youtu.be/G6iqAip-ZNo
Go on? ๐ค
Asking the important questions! ๐ค
Oh no, you're totally totally fine! Honestly I could've listened to it earlier today; I'm now just currently grappling with a migraine med that has made my pain significantly worse. ๐
But I'll take any recs you got, of any type!
If insurance makes me endure a third triptan that just makes my skull feel like it's caught in a bear trap, I'm jumping beak-first into a wood chipper holy shit
Ooh, thank you! It might be a bit before I'm able to listen (migraine), but I'm very much looking forward to it.
Revisiting my favs off the one Flaming Lips album I've heard, and now I need music suggestions:
any recs for melancholy, bummed-out psych?

I'M READY
Now I know to be wary next time I see you! ๐ฑ
Nothing like starting the day off weeping, good god. ๐ญ
The impossibility of finding medical care before *August* for a fucking ER follow-up in my shit-ass city has me ready to spit knives and split town entirely.
Sorry for the venting, but I'm reaching my breaking point.
I'm now 2-for-2 in situations where "insurance won't initially cover what the goddamn medical expert prescribed" = "made things worse", which is coooooool cool cool.
Loving my health insurance here on day 11 of a migraine: they refused to cover the med my doctor prescribed without first trying a cheaper one.
The cheaper med just made the migraine worse. ๐
(So if you see this and I haven't responded to your messages, I promise I'll get there eventually!)
Both of these are extremely true. ๐
To summarize:
- sampling can be cool as hell, a way of bringing the musical past into the present that isn't just lazy repetition
- Barry White and his band made one of the nastiest grooves in history
- "Like That" >>>>> "Not Like Us" (fight me)
...which interpolates (and slightly alters) the riff from a 1973 soul song.

...which samples a rap song from 1986...

Music history time! Here's a fun example of how 50 years of stylistic change can show up in a single song.
Start with a 2024 rap song, with an ear out for the bass line and lead synth...
I'm about halfway done writing a furry novella that is pretty much this. ๐คฃ
Reposting this in case it helps others down the line; it wound up being pretty dang helpful for me and my ringing ears.
Holy hell, thank you! That already helped a bit, and even kinda shifted around the ringing in my ears.
I can't thank you enough!
That said, I'm all ears for any tips people have for dealing with vertigo. I've never had something like this happen before.
