Could really use the help here folks. My next gig isn't for a while, SNAP denied my application and I need to keep my phone on.

So any little bit can help me out.

people "have money", in that they have income. but the number of people seriously burdened by their rent is the highest it's ever been. the cost of living is so much worse than it was a decade or two ago. I know multiple people making the most money they've ever made who are barely hanging on.

In my multiple personal dealings with Swalwell and his office, I wish I could say this was a surprising revelation.

The reality is that he’s always conducted himself in ways that I associate with abusers—no accountability, constant gaslighting, done with the veneer of performative activism

And secondarily at the way that VtM’s core rulebook fails to include adequate safety tools for some of the themes players may encounter.

I think people can still engage with flawed media, but I don’t think we should platform it without commentary on those flaws at bare minimum.

I love the folks at Bad House!! And I love horror as a genre. Bad house models very effectively how to do horror thoughtfully.

Again, my dig isn’t at VtM or any game for tough themes, but at VtM’s setting, a world where, if you replace jew with vampire, blood libel and replacement theory are true.

VtM’s publishers; same goes for their lack of (public) employment of sensitivity readers.

I just think d20 could be rewarding the games that engage with difficult themes more tactfully, games designed by smaller creators for whom the new attention would be more meaningful. (3/3)

To platform has consequences. The VtM community has spaces where people play it with sufficient nuance and mindfulness ofc. It also has a default world state that requires intentionality to steer it away from recreating harm, and doesn’t provide the safety tools to do so. That was a choice by (2/3)

I appreciate that perspective, and you sharing your experience.

I want to emphasize that Im not out here to criticize people’s home games, smaller streams etc. I just feel like D20, as the second largest stage in TTRPGs, has an obligation to wield that platform wisely. What media they choose (1/3)

Absolute icon

I saw him speak at the tribeca games festival where he was asked about VR, and his answer was “we live in a world where most visual art is constrained to a frame, which captures art, imprisons it. people yearn to live amongst the art as well.”

🟢 Durant, OK warehouse has sold… to the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma!

ICE previously sought to buy the space to create a mega detention center capable of holding 8,500 people. This is the 13th warehouse they have been denied.

Fear to justify a genocide in the name of Jewish safety.

When we play games, we practice patterns of thought. Bioessentialist notions of good and evil exist in lots of games, but few mirror real world bigotry as closely as VtM. it’s a world where ppl are right to fear a Jewish coded un-human (3/3

For me, it feels like people enjoying playing in the most harmful versions of blood libel/replacement theory. I find it upsetting because I don’t get to take those stereotypes off at the end of session. My lived reality is one where ppl want me dead for these things, and where Isr@3l uses that (2/3)

I think v5 is better in a lot of respects, but the unfortunate reality is that the premise of the masquerade resembles n@z1 conspiracy. Even as the publisher says the game isn’t for n@z1s, its premise is one where their beliefs about a cabal of ppl eaters scheming for control are the reality (1/3)

Vermillion Vespers (Modern Vampire Roleplaying) - Thought Punks | DriveThruRPG You remember. Putting on the black lipstick. The character whose outfit description took ten minutes because the boots mattered. The late nights as the DJ announced last call through a haze of clove s...

Vermillion Vespers is a new one by Thought Punks that aims to do away with the harmful tropes! I haven't gotten to run it yet, myself, but it looks sick af, least of all because it brings back the classic goth vibes that I feel got lost with "modern" VtM www.drivethrurpg.com/en/product/5...

Genuinely sorry if you felt my engagement was in bad faith, and I respect stepping away.

I’m open to continued dialogue, and I’m okay if we come away disagreeing.

Sorry again if I’ve made you feel like I’m just hating to hate.

The premise that a secret cabal of blood drinkers seek ever increasing control of the world seems kinda baked in to WoD? I’d be happy to learn I’m wrong

Again, I’m saying that I feel that this piece of media is specifically anti-Semitic.

And I appreciate the sentiment, but I am okay to lose some peace if it gets people to think critically about VtM, EVEN if their assessment, like yours, is that they want to keep playing it.

Telling a person of a marginalized identity to move on when they call out a piece of media for being harmful to them is not the “higher road” you think it is…

3 weeks ago 0 0 1 0

I think there are other games that meditate on these themes that don’t root their world in a funhouse mirror version of n@z1 conspiracy, that better encourage players to use safety tools to handle bleed and empower them to set limits on what they’re comfortable with at the table.

3 weeks ago 0 0 1 0

Ultimately, my biggest problem with VtM is the world of darkness itself—not for being full of monsters, but for mirroring the bigoted conspiracies of our own world, rather than its real darkness.

If that was a choice, it’s one rooted in the unchecked biases of its creators.

I actually disagree. I do think there are games out there where those elements are part of the horror, but VtM goes out of its way to make things like blood potency and the masquerade a part of the empowerment fantasy.

There are games that handle similar themes well, provide better safety tool etc

3 weeks ago 0 0 1 0

Discomfort is not the issue. It’s how this piece of media handles those themes. I love horror!

Horror as a genre has been a space where we get to challenge the normative harms of society I.e. bigotry, colonialism etc.

VtM recreates a lot of those harms, which is why I don’t like it

Eat the Reich: short, bloody, anti-n@zi power fantasy

If I was going to personally set out to run an episodic campaign for friends I would probably wind up using either Urban Shadows or a reskin of Monster of the Week

I’m also looking forward to @carrion-comfort.com’s upcoming game “Come On In”!

3 weeks ago 2 0 1 0

Yeah forsure! I think it varies a lot on what about vampires the players want to explore, but top of mind:

Low Stakes: rules light, slapstick WwDItS inspired

Bloodbeam Badlands: post apocalyptic, gunslinging

Monsterheart: interpersonal, communication-oriented

Blood Borg: gutter punk OSR (1/2)
