Four Solutions to Abuse in Homeschooling Communities We need to use a multi-pronged approach to abuse and neglect within homeschooling communities.

Regulatory oversight of homeschooling making you uncomfortable doesn't mean you get to ignore abuse in your homeschool community. Educate children about abuse, make a child protection policy, interview a child protection professional—do something!

This has me cackling! My sibling commented that they could probably ask their kids to make something better because "Aren't they all about child labor?"

Read Lucky Day by @chucktingle.bsky.social and it was somehow the most uplifting and hopeful book I've read all year and also the most disturbing. Truly an incredible feat.

We're founded and led by homeschool alumni and those experiences guide our work. If you are an alumni, consider joining us for a December focus group - you’ll be the first to hear about our new legislative and research work and we want to hear what you think is important too. tinyurl.com/CRHEAlumni

As far as I am aware, in the history of homeschooling, this is the first public workshop and roundtable on abuse prevention hosted by a state homeschool organization and featuring a homeschool alum:

"The hard truth is this: there is no biblical blueprint for families. As much as we want one, as much as it might be easier if we had one, it's just not there."

Two swords side by side. The sword on the left is labeled canine. It is a curved branch with a tennis ball on the end on the hilt. The sword on the right is labeled shell. It is an orange lobster claw

extremely fking weird to yell about “lockdown harms kids” while locking your kids in the basement and only letting them out to go to church
Signed,

A digital sketch of a cat pointing to a sword. The quality of the line work is poor. The cat looks super excited to be holding a cool sword.

I was warming up by doing some #swordtember prompts and this guy just appeared!

Looking back I just want to tell myself that this is an extremely offensive thing to say. She shouldn't have said that at all. I am furious for my past self.

She wasn't trying to understand me as a human being. She was trying to win.

I responded by playing therapist. I said I wondered why she would think that. I encouraged her to explore her feelings around this.

I remember one time after I moved out (about 5 years ago) my mom asked me why I was afraid to be a woman. I could tell this was a "gotcha!" moment for her. She thought if she could just say the right line I would stop being trans.

I've been thinking about this thread a lot lately. I used to really buy into this. I loved debate. But it was never a place where I was allowed to have my own opinion.

If violence is never the answer, let's stop hitting our own children and bombing other people's children.

I'm feeling more and more uncomfortable using social media at all lately. Sad to hear this site is more of the same. I thought we might have something different.

Also I was able to get it from my library even though it just came out?! (This is why we queer our libraries folks!) They didn't have a copy of boys weekend so I will definitely be buying that one soon.

Okay I gotta say something. I can no longer stay silent.

Simplicity by @mattielubchansky.com was a great read! The art style was fun, the story was delightfully weird and sweet, and the message was very heartfelt. I only wish it had lasted me a little longer.

A reminder that multiple cybersecurity experts were consulted and all said they saw ZERO indication that scammers were targeting Palestinian mutual aid/donation fundraisers.

It’s just assholes and racists, acting like racist assholes as they condemn Gazans to death for “clogging their timeline”

The worst part about the news about the national guard being deployed to DC is that I was raised evangelical Christian and surrounded by folks who loudly declared they would fight back against tyranny and a government who used force against its own people. Those people are absolutely silent rn.
