2 South TX physicians detained by ICE amid doctor shortage ICE detentions of two physicians raise alarms about healthcare gaps in deep South Texas.

Now they’re deporting doctors who serve communities that desperately need medical care? These physicians are not criminals. And now all of their patients are left without care. Who will they come for next? #AbolishICE #MedSky

One of the ways news media often fail us is by giving us the microscopic rather than the telescopic view. Everything I mention in this essay is well-documented, but the dots are mostly not connected to make visible this death by a thousand cuts our country is undergoing.

Now two different authors I copyedited for last year had book launches in Seattle but on days when I was out of town — I am so happy for them and so sad for me to miss the celebrations!

April 18: Celebrate Dorothy Van Soest's latest in her series of social justice-oriented mystery novels.

It's never not a good time to reduce speed, carpool, use public transit, walk or bike or roll if you can, work from home, and develop habits less reliant on fossil fuels.

The Edge of Two Worlds (art002e009285, April 6, 2026).

Our planet draws closer to passing behind the Moon in this image captured by the Artemis II crew during the lunar flyby, about 6 minutes before Earthset. Earth is in a crescent phase, with sunlight coming from the right. The dark portion of the Earth is experience nighttime. On Earth’s day side, swirling clouds are visible in muted blue in the Australia and Oceania region. The lines of small indentations on the Moon’s rugged surface are secondary craters. These structures are formed by material from ejected during a violent primary impact.

This is just a surreally beautiful picture. We live on such a breathtakingly beautiful planet and I’m grateful for the brave humans who left the safety of our atmosphere to show us our world from a new perspective.

3-year-old suffered sexual abuse during months in immigration custody, family alleges An immigrant family is grappling with the ordeal suffered by a 3-year-old girl who endured alleged sexual abuse while her father fought for five months for her release from federal custody.

"To have your child abused while in the government's care, to not understand what has happened or how to protect them, to not even be told about the abuse, it is unimaginable," said an attorney representing the girl. https://to.pbs.org/3PV4hr9

Picture of Marjane Satrapi alongside a quote from her. The quote reads:

The world is not divided into countries. The world is not divided between East and West. You are American, I am Iranian, we don't know each other, but we talk together and we understand each other perfectly. The difference between you and your government is much bigger than the difference between you and me. And the difference between me and my government is much bigger than the difference between me and you.

And our governments are very much the same...

- Marjane Satrapi, Iranian-French graphic novelist

Y'all, get ready for shenanigans and confusion in November, because voter suppression is coming hard for middle-class white folks. I'm Williamson County, I left to vote at 2pm and didn't get home till 7:15pm. This county is more diverse than when I moved here 20 years ago, but still very white. 1/9
