Always down to support the Trans community (and St. Louis)

Notable that the left has been able to win huge victories by acting like good allies. See Econ policy under Biden and what Mamdani is currently doing in NYC. Threatening to abstain has never achieved such success, but the threats have caused tons of persuadable ppl to hate the left.

And ultimately, this is the a weakness of Newsom that the left should be more actively trying to exploit. His awful remarks on trans ppl, his interviews w RW figures — this guy is not our ally. I think that is a message that can resonate with voters

So if you are perceived as being not on board with the party agenda, primary voters dislike it. Cori Bush, an incredible progressive house member, lost bc Wesley Bell was able to make it look like she didn’t support Biden bc she voted against the infrastructure bill

People who vote in Democratic Primaries tend to like Democrats. Some (hopeful) signs that dem voters are dissatisfied with the party rn, but the statement is still generally true. If you position yourself as not actually liking the party, that hurts you!

So I think it actually is not a good example of defection threats working as a strategy.

Uncommitted was different bc notably, it was all about finding an alternative to Biden. It had ties to the establishment party and the ppl who ran it still campaigned for Democrats and encouraged voting for Biden in the general.

The Michigan voters had an actual policy preference that Dems potentially could have responded to. The people who refuse to vote for Dems from the left have no such position. There’s nothing Dems can do that would persuade them

Most of the people who actually will refuse to vote for Dems from “the left” are fundamentally not gettable votes. It’s a very small minority of voters who are not as ideologically principled as they want to seem. Those voters are more like Krysten Sinema than the voters Harris lost in Michigan.

I’m dropping Sargent, Zawadzki, and Berhalter. They brought 24 to this camp, so if I have to drop one more it’d be Harriel.
